Lately, have been thinking a lot about banisters, stair and balcony railings. Don’t ask me why.
Lately have been also thinking that I am not as smart as I was years ago. Don’t ask me why. I know the two topics do not really correlate but it is just the way my mind works. So today, on the phone with best of friend AM, I was telling her that I didn’t feel smart. She immediately suggested I start getting a newsletter called TheSkimm. Said newsletter apparently summarizes all current events and important news into supposedly digestible nuggets – reading said daily newsletter should then make me smart…right…deductive reasoning at its best. My mother and sister would both be appalled to find out that I am trying to take a short cut to feeling smart as opposed to just sitting down and reading and learning…but a girl has got to do what she’s got to do. So, at Harvard-educated best-of- friend AM’s suggestion, I have entered my email address and will be receiving all news I should care about in the form of a short daily email with blurbs. I am convinced this will indeed make me smarter! Woohooo. Check back with me on Friday and I’ll be a different person.
Anyhooo….in the meantime, before I get totally smart in one day, please let’s discuss beautiful banisters. I pulled together this little collection of photos of beautiful dramatic well designed stair railings. A banister with a little personality can amp up the chic in a space and set the tone of good style. These all happen to be dark and metal (iron or steel) railings…but really any subtle elegance on a railing can work, I guess the purpose of this post is to say…don’t forget the details when designing a home…details can make a huge difference in creating a space that is exciting and very pleasing to the eye!
Here are 9 of the best I could find…
If you were remodeling a house…would you stick with a regular traditional banister or dare to be different?
P.S. My very smart mother wrote me a note the other day saying reading my blog is an intellectually nail biting experience because of the daily typos she catches and emails to me. 🙂 Maybe after I start reading that daily newsletters, the typos will miraculously disappear. Mom…wish me luck! In the meantime, am thankful to have a mom that indeed reads my blog daily and then helps me by sending me any corrections. If I don’t get smart overnight, Mom may have to continue in her Mom/copy editor roll. 🙂
P.P.S. Speaking of smart…just saw my cute collection of COCOCOZY for Mirth Studio painted wood floor tiles on Instagram yesterday. As many of you know, I have partnered with South Carolina based Mirth Studio on my very own collection of wood tile floors with COCOCOZY designs “painted” onto them. So cool to see. This is my COCOCOZY Ring pattern that Mirth has made into an ebony and cream colored wood tile. Great for floors, ceilings, backsplashes, walls or any surface you want to spruce up! Here is a photo from Mirth’s Instagram!
