White Brick

I want a house with a white brick exterior. Period. I would take a house with a white brick fireplace. Period again. Give me a white brick wall and that will do too. Another period. I say “period” for emphasis here. I am overdoing it for a reason. Any brick, painted white, anywhere in a home…that says perfection. Period. Period. Period. A classic architectural detail that can play either traditional or modern. Today, on this Tuesday in May, it is my day to pay homage to all things white brick.

Happy Monday! I am obsessed with stair risers. For those of you who do not know what a stair riser is…then this post is for you. A stair riser is simply the vertical portion of each stair. I think of a stair riser simply as another design opportunity. It is a way to dress up your stairs. Tiles, paint, contrasting wood, or even decorative metals can make all of the difference for a set of stairs.

I have a COCOCOZY collection of painted wood floor tiles with Mirth Studios’ Mirthful Home. Mirth Studios also makes a great collection of stair riser decals that you can simply peel and stick onto already existing stairs! Love them. Click here to see their full collection of stair risers and read on to see my collection of stair riser decals and to see different options for your home too!

I love a good arch.  As mentioned many a time, my best of friend AM loathes arches.  We have been best of friends for years and have rarely had major differences.  The arch thing is a major difference.  Yes, best of friend AM, I am drawing a line in the sand about arches. I love love love love them.  So… AM and I love talking about home decor.  We both get really excited when chatting about all things design.  We are aligned.  She likes a little more bold color and pattern than I do, but generally we are in sync…on the same page…see eye to eye…like minded…kindred design spirits…except when it comes to arches.  I don’t know why she doesn’t like arched things. I really don’t.  I know, after all these years, I cannot sway her.  It is fine.  I am resolved.  One less arch lover means more arched things for me.  I love arches in home decor.    I do.  I think a good arched built in book shelf, window or doorway can all of the character you need into a space.  Take a look and then please weigh in on this great debate…do you like arches? Or don’t you?

I like a good “before and after” post. The whole fun of seeing a well designed room or home is checking out what it looked like before someone took care and time to make it look awesome.  See this Bethesda, Maryland home designed by Ella Scott Design as case in point.  A once drib drab traditional interior that looked like it was designed in the 1970s was updated to look modern fresh and livable.  High contrast, brightened up and tailored finishes make this updated space top notch.   You won’t believe what this home looked like before Ella Scott Design worked on it…take a look…

I am totally obsessed with the idea of taking a flower arranging class.  I have no idea where I would find such a course, but I DEFINITELY want to take one. I love entertaining and I love creating my own original flower arrangements.  I think adding the right flowers to any setting can improve the decor and feel of a space almost instantly.  I love arranging flowers but I wouldn’t say I am a pro at it. I want to get better.  That being said…having fresh flowers in your home doesn’t have to be a big ordeal or cost a lot of money or require you to take some fancy flower arranging course.  All it takes is four steps: 1) go to your local supermarket or flower shop and buy any type of flowers or greenery; 2) Find some sort of vase or vessel in your cupboard; 3) Add water;  4) Cut flowers and voila! Instant upgrade to your room’s decor.  Here are some easy everyday flower arrangements for inspiration…

Okay, for those of you who just read the blog and are not on my social media channels, I just realized I did not clue you in on some very big news!

Last month, I woke up one morning to find thousands of more followers on my Instagram and an email from FORBES MAGAZINE saying I had been named as one of 30 on the Forbes Top Influencers List for 2017 (I ranked #10 in the Home category) !!!!  WHAAAAAAAAT???  Every time I think about it, I pinch myself.  That morning, I started screaming and dancing and reading and screaming and dancing and reading and screaming and dancing and reading…it was unbelievable to me that after almost 8 years of blogging, my blog had been recognized by Forbes.  I could not believe it!  I still can’t.  Why me?
