Dark Interior Inspiration – Black Walls

December 3, 2019
  • Share

Lately, I’ve been seeing dark interiors with black walls or super dark grey walls everywhere so today is all about dark interior inspiration. You would think dark interiors would be overwhelming and make the space feel super small and harsh. I have found it to be the opposite. When black walls or dark interiors are done correctly the rooms feel cozy, warm, and chic. Get ready for a collection of images that are going to convince you to paint all of your walls black.

First up is a stunning kitchen basking in the sunlight. The black walls and cabinets are a lot but the pops of white and other colors keep it from being overwhelming. I love that the rust orange apron and floral arrangement add a subtle amount of color. The white countertops and white top tables are really what make this space amazing in contrast to the dark walls.

This dark wall paneling is super chic and balances well with the industrial details of the bedframe. The bedding is layered beautifully with multiple dark tones. The addition of the plant, lamp, and small bedside table really adds the perfect dash of brightness to the space.

Next up is a magical looking bathroom. The dark teal walls are highlighted by the gold mirror, the light fixture, and the pops of white. This space looks very romantic and chic. The stone sink in a light grey is a beautiful touch to this powder room.

This dark interior combines a variety of styles with ease. The dark teal wall color is illuminated by the large light fixture. The detail on the molding/ceiling is incredible! The marble fireplace, rug, and table add just the right amount of white while the velvet chair and floral arrangement add a rush of color.

These dark blue walls add the perfect drama to this dinner table. The super high ceiling keeps this room from feeling cramped and the light fixture provides a unique detail. The warm-toned flooring and dining room table set give the perfect touch of color to the room. The candlesticks add some drama to the room.

This kitchen combines the warm and dark cozy feeling with a touch of rusticness thanks to the wood countertops. The pops of white on the window and sink add a nice rush of lightness. The other kitchen accessories add a nice casualness to the room. The knives are hung up like artwork diagonally from a portrait.

Next up is a sitting area that takes a more traditional approach to interiors with dark walls. The paint added to the ceiling adds a sense of drama while the taupe rug adds a slight lightness. The chair is a very interesting mix of cheetah print and traditional furniture design. The floral arrangement adds a gorgeous focal point to the space.

Another take on a dark walled bathroom takes a bit of a different approach. The dark tile walls add a bit of a stark feeling. The gold accents and warm lighting keep this room from being too harsh and industrial. They found a great line in between. The square sink adds a nice shape to the room.

This space is from a cozy cabin. The dark walls take on a wood paneling approach and hone in on the cozy feeling. The see-through wall is a great addition to break the space up and create an intimate sitting area. I love that the dark walls continue to a dark high ceiling. For a dark interior – this space feels anything but cramped.

Last up is a living room corner that takes a beautiful approach to a dark wall interior. The combo of black, white, and wood is balanced perfectly. The bright room in the background also keeps the dark walls from being overwhelming. The black-framed doorway is a stunning detail.

I love this post. I want to paint my new house dark grey or dark teal. All rooms. I don’t how it will be. Am convinced by these photos. Thanks for the post

Keep it simple. No need for bells and whistles an Keep it simple. No need for bells and whistles and fancy things to make your house a home. In this picture, a plant, two chairs I found at the flea market, a layered rug situation and some modern art...de-cluttered space can be equally as inviting as one filled with memories and treasures. If you are stuck with how to decorate, I say keep it simple. Purge and start with the basics. Full disclosure, this is a shot of my living room from a few years ago when I first moved in...I didn’t even have drapes up when this was taken. I have since added pieces and changed out furniture and added a 2nd sofa...but it started super simple and it was lovely back then. When the world is swirling around us and making no sense, how are you keeping things simple at home? #socococozy #bringstylehome #cococozy
Pre-pandemic throw back photo to where I was last Pre-pandemic throw back photo to where I was last year. Clueless as to what was to come. Was in Paris, with my mom, enjoying her summer apartment in the middle of the 6th arrondissement. I had just left the U.K. visiting friends for a few days in London and the Cotswolds. None of us knew that this summer 2020 would be so different. Today, I can only hope this time of tumult and great divides leads somehow to a future of calm and harmony. Going backwards in time is not an option. Pushing forward is. Happy Sunday to you. Where were you last summer? Where do you imagine you’ll be next? Xoxo #socococozy #bringstylehome
Incredible living room before and after as designe Incredible living room before and after as designed by my good friend Steve Jones @bettershelter! I went on a tour today. I also went on a tour a year ago when he first got the house. See my stories. Swipe to see what this room looked like before. Life lesson from a room transformation: When faced with the daunting and not so pretty, look to do the work, and you can make changes to bring out what is good. Right? This home by the way is going on the market soon and is in one of my favorite parts of town, View Park. What changes have you made lately that have turned bad into good? #socococozy #bringstylehome #remodeling #homerenovation #californiadreaming

Am in my living room right now looking at these pretty flowers in that white urn I found lying around. The urn works (see Flower Power highlights for backstory). Thinking on who I might send one of these bouquets to today as a little act of kindness. Still working on the patience piece of her advice! 🤪 Who might you send flowers to? How can you be more patient with yourself? Happy Saturday!
