Happy May! I recognize the title of this post is “WEEKEND PHOTO” singular yet I am posting two photos…couldn’t help it though…needed a couple of different angles on this fantastic floor.
What an interesting room from the 2011 San Francisco Decorator Showcase just opened to the public yesterday and runs through the end of May. It benefits the financial aid program for a local San Francisco high school.
This dining room is a little more dark and moody than what normally catches my eye…but for some reason, I really like. It’s perhaps the painted black and white graphic floor that does it for me the most and then those green Louis XVI dining chairs! The huge parsons dining table is custom made faux painted to look like burled wood.
Designer Grant K. Gibson designed this dining room for this San Francisco show house. The floor was apparently created by decorative painter Katherine Jacobus.

What do you think? Do you like that floor? Please weigh in. Want to know whether this works for you too or is not your cup of tea.
Happy Sunday!

Hi Coco! I hope you are having a great weekend. Im more of a neutral palette person, but I do think that the colors here go very well together! The modern elements compliment the traditional aspects of the space, which I think is hard to do sometimes. I do love the chairs and the floor for this space. I probably wouldn’t incorporate it into my own…
love the chairs. is that leather? I’m considering leather or patent leather for my chairs and wondering the upkeep challenges. Great floor too.
I painted the floor of my studio space in black with a white stencil design over it. I had ugly old parquet floors that look a thousand times better painted! It’s on my blog if you want to see. http://www.divinedistractions.blogspot.com
I love it!
I LOVE IT!!! Thanks for the photo, It definitely has my wheels turning, thinking of a design for my downstairs floor, which is currently raw concrete. Something definitely needs to be done and stained concrete just sounds boring.
Fabu! Huge fan of it all. The floor adds so much of a design punch, and balanced out with a traditional element-(the use of the blue and white porcelain on the table)
Amazing-thanks for sharing, Tanya

I’m a sucker for patterned floors – tile, carpet, paint really anything. I love it and the high contrast black and white
I think this is fabulous…certainly would be a fun place to dine and isn’t that the point?! Love the lighting.
Super Chic! The dark walls and light floor really give the room a dramatic twist. Emerald, Saphire, and Pink diamonds – it’s a jewel box.
I love it, especially with the dark walls. Wish I could see the whole room!

I love the bold color of the chairs and the graphic on the floor. The Chinese pottery on the table is rather old fashioned; I would prefer handmade glass, to add sparkle.
Definitely a bold choice but I love it !!

I am suddenly seeing this room everywhere because it is absolutely stunning. I LOVE the stenciled floor, and I am happy to see this art form being used again. The green chairs are just what the room needs. Brilliant.

Kelly green with bold black and white will be a combo to watch. This room is stunning!
Coco I love it! The floors and table top keep it from becoming too oppressive! Bravo Grant!

Love it! The floors are fantastic!
I agree with you, a little dark and woody- but I love the floors and the light fixture – it’s perfect!
Love the chairs and the floor but the collection of porcelain on the tabletop is a deal-breaker for me. Way too fussy/prissy for my tastes. Could very easily be pared down for a more clean, modern look to suit though! Interesting choice.
Love this!! I really like how sometimes things that don’t match end up working together to create a great look! Have a great day! -Suzy from better decorating bible blog!
it doesn’t speak to me as a whole but broken down I really like each piece.
Hi Coco, I love the contrast in the picture! Has a bit of a vintage feel to it. Thanks for always keeping me inspired and hungry for more!
