THE ART OF EXTERIOR DESIGN – A BACKYARD MAKEOVER!

A sunny backyard post in the middle of fall?

I know…it is fall around the rest of the country…trees are losing their leaves, warm auburns, golds and rusts make up the landscape, and the afternoon sunshine is an inviting amber…autumn is here.

Not in Lala land. Here in Los Angeles…it is like summer…go figure. So to honor the complete lack of fall here, I thought I would highlight a lovely Los Angeles summery backyard in this post. Today, in Southern California, it was a smidge over 80 degrees outside and it was bright clear (no smog) and sunny…very similar to what it looks like in these pictures.

Okay, I don’t want to complain at all…but I WANT FALL. I was born and raised here in Los Angeles, so this freak of nature year round nice weather should be the norm for me. After spending years on the east coast, however, I became accustomed to the crisp fall weather and the beautiful dramatic change of seasons. Plus, above all, I look better in crisp fall weather too….it is the clothes…I LIKE FALL CLOTHES…I CANNOT WEAR FALL CLOTHES HERE. AAARGGGGHHHH.

Now I know the stress of “no fall in L.A.” may seem to some like a frivolous, superficial, airheadish, non substantive complaint considering all of the other serious things that are going on in the world. Yes…you are right…

Sorry for digressing. Just trying to explain why I chose this particular sunny backyard to feature in the middle of fall.

Anyhoooo….The Sunset Team’s La Kaza Design group is responsible for this lovely outdoor living space redo and landscaping – a remarkable outdoor remodel! Here is today’s Cococozy BEFORE AND AFTER:

A redwood deck and an iron spiral staircase are added to the back of the house, creating the perfect space for outdoor dining and entertaining. The spiral staircase gives the homeowners access to the roof for entertaining, sunning or just perhaps enjoying the views (above)

After, the house is painted a steel grey and windows are replaced with dark wood stained french doors. The small pool is a deep blue and is lined with a mosaic of blue tiles. (above)
