BELLE OF THE CONVERTED BALLROOMS!

June 23, 2011
  • Share
Living room by Steven Gambrel with high coffered ceilings, a modern spikey chandelier, grey-lavender painted walls to created a panel effect, floor length curtains, grey sofas and matching armchairs, a leather ottoman has been turned into a coffee table and a greyish lavender area rug covered in squares.

Love this all in one room designed by Steven Gambrel. This city living room dining room combination is a renovated and remodeled ballroom.

Decorative molding and greyish lavender paint are combined to create a “panel” effect on the walls…these long rectangular panels act as a link between the high high ceilings and the rest of the room – a little design helping the architecture along!

I definitely like the dark black fireplace too.

And notice…more purple, lavender, lilac…hmmmm…purple is not my favorite color but for some reason this week I’ve been loving the way the lighter shades are used in design. Notice all of the lamps in different shades of purple!

What do you think of this converted ballroom. Do you like it as open living space or would you prefer to just dance in a room like this?

Happy Thursday!

P.S. Am off to a party tonight with fab assistant KS, my good friend Yifat Oren and new friend JK. Will be fun!

Stunning! It took several views to see the lavender lamps – would not have been able to envision this combination. Thanks for sharing!!

I LOVE it as an open living space. Think of the cocktail parties you could through! I’m not a huge fan of purple myself, but the muted smokey lavender tones in this room are really beautiful. I also love how Steven played with shapes to unite the entire space. The large rectangular shapes found in the furniture seem to crawl up the wall in the curtains, fireplace, and paneling, onto the linear coffered ceiling, and back down the walls to the floor again. Everything communicates harmoniously in this space.

I love this space! It is absolutely gorgeous. The subtle lavenders and black accents look very elegant. And those purple lamps are to-die-for.

This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millo This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millory @felixmillory , is defined by two things: a tightly controlled material palette and a sculptural art collection that runs through every room without exception.
Travertine frames every doorway. Dark smoked oak covers the joinery and cabinetry. Grey marble runs across the kitchen counters and island. Within that framework, figurative sculptures on the shelves, a large totemic piece at the entrance, stone forms on the dining table, a large-format artwork in the kitchen. Every room has at least one object that demands your attention. 🗿
