CHEAP TO CHIC: BLACK PENDANT LIGHTS!

October 26, 2010
  • Share

Photo: Roger Davies

Never thought I would like a black pendant light until I saw this photo above. In a bright enough and simple enough room a black light fixture, chandelier or pendant light can work. Way back, everyone was doing black Murano glass chandeliers…I like this look as today’s take on black lights!

Here is today’s CHEAP TO CHIC on some black pendant lights.

black barn style pendant light from DWR
DWR – Barn Lamp – $285 (Black pendant light. Dome and canopy made of spun steel. Shiny black exterior, white inside)(above)

yLighting black aluminium pendant light with silver aluminum interior
yLighting – Shade Light – $900 (Black aluminium with silver aluminum interior. Matte finish)(above)

Black drum shaped pendant light from hive
hive – Boon Light – $1332 (Designed Piet Boon. Classic drum shade in black. 37.5″ diameter)

Happy Tuesday!

Great options and I love a black pendant. My favourite though is Flos Skygarden light- I’m bananas over that light but sadly it is wayyyy over budget. Thanks for giving me some more realistic alternatives!

Oooh the last one is my favorite. But of course it is, it’s the most expensive. Isn’t that always the case?

Question: How can we readers send you photos of rooms you might like to use on your blog?

Nero love a touch of well, nero.
I have a similar drumshade to the last one you posted in my son’s room.
It looks great, really grounds the space and lifts the eye.

You my be surprised but IKEA also has several black pendant lights. Very similar at a fraction of the cost of others. Also you can buy a simple white shade one and cover with black fabric.

I love the simple beauty of these pendant lamps. You can fit them in many types of decor and they are nicely functional. I don’t think that I can choose a favorite.

Why do Paris apartments feel so much better than e Why do Paris apartments feel so much better than everything else?
While living in this cute 3 bed 2 bath apartment in the 6ème, I realized it comes down to a few things done really well:
• High ceilings
They create space without adding anything
• Herringbone wood floors
Classic, subtle, and never go out of style
• Crown molding + ceiling medallions
The detail that quietly elevates the entire room
• Interior French doors
They give you openness and separation at the same time
• Natural light
The one thing you can’t fake
I’m staying in this adorable pied-a-terre for a two months. It is my sister and brother in law’s place; they invited me to cozy up here on my own while they are back home in LA.
Every room keeps proving the same point. It’s not about adding more. It’s about getting the foundation right.
If you could only bring one of these Paris apartment design elements into your home, which one would it be?

I remember building each outfit around a coat or a scarf, with comfortable shoes that could take me anywhere, knowing I would be out for hours just walking.
Nothing overthought, just pieces that felt right for the pace of the day.
What would be your OOTD for a cold day in Paris?
