Platner Coffee Table from Hive (above)
This 1966 table design by Warren Platner has become a modern classic. The table is made out of steel iron rods that form a cone like vortex making a perfect circular base frame for the bottom of this coffee table.
In my mind, a Platner table should be paired with the most classic of furniture…bringing together old classic design and new modern form…I imagine this table in a living room or sitting room amongst several classic Louis VXI chairs neatly upholstered in a white fabric.
Here are several Platner knock-offs in today’s Cococozy CHEAP TO CHIC:
CB2 – Cruz Coffee Table – $249 (Handwoven iron wire cage in electric lime green powdercoat is part coffee table, part ethnic craft) (above)
cb2 – Spool Coffee Table – $449 (Vortex of over 1000 hand-welded square iron rings floats round extension of polished clear glass table top. Raw antiqued bronze finish leaves weld marks exposed.) (above)
Zwello – Tatu Coffee Table – $550 (This steel wire coffee table from designer Stephen Burks breaks down into a large tray, bowl and basket. Features triple module construction. Side table and stool also available. Select from red or white finish) (above)
Mecox Gardens – Round Josh Glass Top Coffee Table – $825 (above) (re-edition glass top coffee table with metal spoke base) (above)
Hive – Platner Coffee Table – $1,213 for 36″ round (Steel wire rod base. Glass, marble or wood top. Made in Italy by Knoll. Design Warren Platner, 1966.) (above)
