Wine barrel chandelier inside a Los Angeles area store. (above)
So, way back in February, I took this picture above of a chandelier that was made out of a wine barrel. I liked the concept…but didn’t really know what to do with it. Thought if I had some big Gothic home with a big Gothic dining room that I might want to hang this HUGE fixture in the middle of said room for even more doom and gloom style drama.
Well low and behold as the months went on I kept seeing these so called “wine barrel” chandeliers all over the place. Seemed it was/is that wine barrel goth is de rigueur in home decor. I actually think the goal is to be rustic chic but to me these look like they belong in an old Gothic castle with a man named Igor being the person charged with lighting them each night.
Don’t get me wrong…I do like these chandeliers…the one above was huge and awe inspiring.
So, hence, today’s CHEAP TO CHIC…with a few wood beaded chandeliers thrown in for good measure (and because they do not look goth)!

I love the lines in those from Maison Luxe and Mecox Gardens. They are all beautiful, thanks!
I have been considering this type of chandelier for our home in the Wine Country. I too discovered them in various antique/design stores there. Now they are everywhere. Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel etc. The best is Ballard I think. However, now I don’t want one anymore! Too predictable? I opted for a chandelier with real candles for now…..But, I do love the one you photographed. That one is killer! –Delores
I love the Beaded Empire Chandelier. I want to hang it in my bedroom and stare it all night. It’s gorgeous!
These are awful. Like this for firewood.
One of the most wonderful chandeliers I’ve seen, believe it or not, was at the Museum of Art and Design (MAD) in NYC made from syringes, as crystals, and strungout (!) empty white capsules, as beads. It fooled the eye and delighted the mind!
I ordered a bunch of the wine barrel staves from a company in Kentucky to create an ottoman design. They’re really inexpensive it you’re the DIY type.
Such great chandeliers – love the ones from Crate & Barrel & from Layla Grayce 🙂
