COLOR WATCH: A PASSION FOR PASTELS!

November 8, 2011

Living room in london with a blue velvet sofa, light grey tufted armchairs, two small coffe tables, a modern chandelier and a pink piece of modern art on the wall

There’s just something about this pastel hued home that I’m really liking. I came across it in uber photographer Simon Watson’s portfolio. When I usually think of pastels in home decor, I think of that shabby chic look or something too frou frou and frilly for me…well this home has changed my view on that!

Lavenders, blues and the palest of pinks in the living room. Then there is a soft sea foam green blue used in the dining room and den. Hmmm…these are definitely pastel colors but read as neutrals in my view.

Modern and sophisticated.  Not a lot of fuss.  Fuss-less is important here I think when using such potentially fussy colors.  Simplicity is key.

Den with sea foam walls, white sofa, glass coffee table and two pictures of a man with horses above the sofa

What to do you think of this decor ode to pastels?  Like or dislike?  Any of these colors you might use in your home or anything you would absolutely never use?  Do tell!

Happy Tuesday!

I love, love, love the pastels as a backdrop for that beautiful blue sofa! I wouldn’t use them in my own home though. The light from the sun is too strong here in South Texas for them to even show up as color. If they do it like these pics, those who live further north can get away with it.

I think these rooms are beautiful. They do not “feel” like pastel rooms. The textural furniture such as the velvet couch and the leather bring “warmth” to these rooms. I would love all of them.

The design featured here is beautiful, but who lives here?? It feels like a show house, not an actual lived-in home 🙁

It creates a soothing feel that’s for sure. I would miss those strong pops of color I like though. http://inmycabinet.blogspot.com

Did you know one Sunday a month, the Champs-ÉlyséeDid you know one Sunday a month, the Champs-Élysées closes to traffic entirely?
No cars. Just people, walking straight down the center with the Arc de Triomphe ahead. Then I walked home over The Seine. It had just rained, and the sky was doing something extraordinary. And of course, the Eiffel Tower showed up right on cue.
Paris on a quiet Sunday is something else. 🖤

This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millo This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millory @felixmillory , is defined by two things: a tightly controlled material palette and a sculptural art collection that runs through every room without exception.
Travertine frames every doorway. Dark smoked oak covers the joinery and cabinetry. Grey marble runs across the kitchen counters and island. Within that framework, figurative sculptures on the shelves, a large totemic piece at the entrance, stone forms on the dining table, a large-format artwork in the kitchen. Every room has at least one object that demands your attention. 🗿
→ Save this if you’re designing around a sculpture collection.
