Indoor or outdoor Vegetal Chair by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullac, 2008. Produced by Vitra in Germany. Dyed polyamide. Display at last year’s Dwell on Design show. Price approx. $555. (above)
Last year while at the Dwell on Design show here in Los Angeles, I ran into these web like cone shaped outdoor chairs shown above. Thought they were interesting to look at and a much more stylish alternative to your everyday outdoor plastic chair. At the end of the show, Vitra was selling them at a discount because they had brought so many to display and for seating. I almost bought one or two…but didn’t (my problem…always missing good deals…or buying too high). Needless to say, was regretting that I didn’t buy when I saw these chairs all over the internet this year at a much more expensive price!!!
Anyhooooo…after getting over my regret, this year, I noticed a ton of chairs – both indoor and outdoor – with the same cone-like shape. Thought the round shallow funnel outline was interesting to look at (although have not tested the comfort level of any of this seating). A nice modern accent inside the home or out.
In the event this modern design appeals to you, there are a range of options…here they are in today’s CHEAP TO CHIC!
Urban Outfitters – Loop Chair – $79 (An antique-style wire chair. Round design with a distressed, powder-coated finish. Twisted iron detail. Indoors or out. 26.5″w, 26.5″d, 29″h. Powder-coated iron alloy wire.)(above)
cb2 – Igloo Chair – $149 (Handwoven heavy-gauge white wire rounds out a 1950s outdoor classic. Like a tilted satellite dish on a hairpin leg base. Rust-resistant white powdercoat finish. Handwoven heavy-gauge wire.)(above)
yliving – Mr. Impossible – $440 (Philippe Starck designed chair for Kartell)(above)
hive – Eros Fixed Base Chair – $485 (Design Philippe Starck, 2001. Polycarbonate, polished aluminum. Made in Italy by Kartell. 24″ w 27″ d 31″ h seat; 18″ h. Transparent colors: crystal, yellow, orange, light yellowish green and cobalt blue. Opaque colors: glossy white, glossy black and Kartell red.)(above)
I like the wire outdoor versions of this chairs in white…I think they could look great on a modern sleek deck or next to the infinitiy pool I do not have. Mr. Impossible is pretty cute too – maybe in a different color.
Would love to know what you think about cone shaped chairs. A wonderful accent or too modern for you? If you had to pick one, which one might you want around your house?
Hope you have a great Friday!

I could see those Urban Loop chairs out on a patio with ferns and moss and all sorts of greenery all around them. 🙂
I love a little inspiration! Thanks,

I’ll bet the cone design on all these chairs makes for a really comfortable seat….and so very stylish and fun. Thanks for sharing!
a friend used to have a polycarbonate chair very much like the red starck one as her computer chair. oww.
she’s moved it to another room and replaced it with a more ergonomic one. they all look nice, but i need more back and bum support!
We looked at those cb2 versions for some outdoor seating as they are inexpensive and funky.
Coco, really love the 1st image, very cool!!

instant interest to a space. great shape with comfort.
That first set actually LOOKS really comfortable. I’m sure many of them are, but those first ones seem more inviting for some reason. Cool collection!
I love the whole Jayson and Garden website. The butterfly plate is beautiful. I can see a set of the insect plates hanging on the wall. Thanks for the great link to a beautiful site. Catherine
