This is a glimpse of how I entertained 18 family members and friends last year on Christmas Eve. I did the dinner at my sisters pretty house in Bel Air. I love bringing family together on Christmas. My grandmother did it for dozens of people every holiday…she made her house a warm and inviting place…now I seemed to have picked up the torch. My little cottage in the Hollywood Hills is way too small for large scale entertaining, so I just appropriated my big sister’s house…thank goodness for my sis.
I decided I wanted a natural fresh holiday table – with green, white, silver and natural elements. I started with designing centerpieces with hydrangea, roses and silver ornaments. Then I asked my florist to take some votive candles and wrap them with birch bark and raffia. When it came to the place settings, I kelp it all simple…with white plates, white napkins wrapped in silver ribbon with fresh greenery as an accent.
All around the house…instead of using flowers, I had asked the florist to bring uncut greenery so we could put in vases all around the house.
When my mother walked in with all of her sisters, I saw her smile after she examined the decor. Her smile and joy made all of the running around worth it.
We had a perfect Christmas with everyone. Lots of family cheer. If you make a space warm and inviting like my grandmother did, “they” will come and enjoy.
