So…our interior barn doors are finally up! Progress. They are still not done but they are up.
As you may know, my guy TE and I moved in together into our Malibu home just over a month ago. We spent one year tearing this 4 bedroom house down to the studs, moving almost every single room, adding on a bit of square footage and then building it all back.
We moved in while the house was still unfinished. The update is that the house is still unfinished. We are so happy to be in our beautiful new home but there are so many small things that have not yet been completed. Today we drove into work together and vowed that we are putting the project back into overdrive so we can get the final coat of paint up and be ready for our furniture.
Anyhooo…back to the interior barn doors. These doors lead into our den/library. Our contractor custom made the doors right in our front yard a few weekends ago. He literally set up camp on a Sunday morning. Just him, a metal frame, some thick wood, a saw and few tools and built two massive barn doors. We used a an oak with a steel frame. We love our contract GB. It was quite impressive to watch him build these 10ft high doors with his bare hands!
We had initially decided to white wash them…but when TE saw them hung, he wants to leave the unfinished natural wood as it is. I would much rather have them go lighter and add some grey tones so they blend with the floors and walls. We’ll see. Unsure how this he said she said will end up …but either way, I think it is so cool that our contractor built us our own massive doors and I think they are going to be awesome!
Here are some ideas on finishes for our barn doors…inspiration…TE are you reading this post sweetheart…hint…hint…
Regardless of whether we end up staining the barn doors, leaving them with a natural finish or painting them…the room is going to look gorgeous.
Leaving you with a shot of the view from our living room that is just facing the barn doors. How could you go wrong with this? Right?
I like the warm contrast of the natural oak against your beautiful floors. I am sure whatever you guys decide, it is going to be great. That view!!! WOWOOOOOWWWW!
pop over and check my blog sometime! 🙂
Happy Weekend!

Perfect! So beautiful! While I tend to love natural finishes (they are always my first choice), I can’t help but imagine the light, “greige” wash in the third inspirational panel on your new barn doors when I see your beautiful floors! No matter which way you go, it’ll be stunning. So wonderful for you and your guy to explore your design tastes and learning to make all of these key decisions together. Partnership!
I think I love the oors just the way they are–with the beautiful graining and variations in the wood, they appears as paintings. Congratulatons, Mary
LOVE the doors! We’ll be doing either a sliding or a pocket door on our new master bath to save space and yours will now be one of our inspiration pics 🙂 Also, I love that white sectional in the den – who makes it?
