DO DEPARTMENT STORES OFFER DESIGN INSPIRATION?!

Was in Neiman Marcus a few weekends ago here in Los Angeles (or should I say Beverly Hills) when AM was in town. We were furiously shopping for clothes, shoes, purses and belts for no apparent reason. All of sudden, while on the second floor, AM stopped somewhere around Prada…and decided she liked these chairs. As I mused over the chairs…she took off.

My clothing shopping ended because all of a sudden I was fascinated with the seating groups in this department store. (Thankfully I saved myself a lot of money by focusing on pairs of chairs instead of pricey fashion)

There were lots of chairs paired together. I like the idea pairing identical chairs in a living room, bedroom, a den, a study and even in a department store. Especially and only if the chairs are cute.

Of this bunch…I only really like the black and white floral upholstered french chairs at the top.

Do you like any of these…or are they all not good? Please do tell in comments…would love to hear what you think!

While my eyes were first drawn to the black and white Louis chairs I equally (and in an entirely different way) loved the rich brown leather club chairs…they make a very powerful statement. I’m also intrigued by the contrast of the very classical lines of the Louis chairs and the complete rustic feel of the cowhide…really fantastic actually!

I think it is interesting they chose different chair pairs for each location. I too love the cow-hide chairs.

Having worked in retail many years ago, I can tell you that these chairs are extremely important for the men who accompany “their” women.

I’ve never understood why so many women need to have their husband/boyfriend/significant other with them when they go clothes shopping–it is usually of no interest to them. In the “old” days, when hubby was paying, he might have wanted to inspect the merchandise before shelling out the dough–but my experience is that men are bored to tears and, if they are comfortably seated somewhere, will leave the women alone to do their shopping. Otherwise, they will complain and whine and likely cut the shopping short.

As for their “taste” in chairs/decor as you show it? I would say they need quite a lot of help!
