I am easing back into real life today. I just got back from a magical 6 day stay at Playa Grande Beach Club in the Dominican Republic. A group of us went down for spring break and to celebrate best of friend AM’s birthday. The core group was AM, her hubby JE, MR, JR, RBC, JW, MJ, JW & S and lots of kids. Then there were oodles of other people floating in and out of the vacation including RBC’s sister and brother-in-law, MM, L and PK, RBC’s friend S and then randomly into a friend of mine BHL who happened to have booked a room at this luxury boutique resort as well because she knew someone in the group.
My mind is flooded with so many nice memories. It is hard to write them all down.
All I can say is the Playa Grande Beach Club is paradise. This beautiful little resort on the north coast of the Dominican Republic has everything to offer. This boutique hotel was meticulously built, designed and planned by New York investment manager Boykin Curry with interiors and stunning styling by Celerie Kemble and her lovely mom and Palm Beach designer Mimi McKakin. It just opened a few years ago. The service and hospitality is right on point. 5 star in my view. The attention to detail in the design makes every resting spot a place of magic.
Every morning, we tripped out of our rooms over to breakfast overlooking the beautiful blue tiled salt water pool and the ocean (one morning I managed to convince AM’s hubby to have two breakfasts with me – so much for the starvation diet I mentioned in pre-trip posts). Then the dilemma was whether to do ocean or pool. Then a snack brought to you by the pool. Great conversation with whoever was closest. AM and JW card sharking a complicated game that AM made up I think. AM’s hubby JE with his DSL camera shooting photos all over the grounds. Having a nice chat with MR as we watched the day unfold. JR takes off to yoga. MJ comes and sits after a mile long walk on the beach. Then the tough choice of whether to have lemon cucumber water or a chilled glass of rose. Lunch. My favorite is the Dominican bowl consisting of rice, vegetables, a legume of some sort and well seasoned meat. Then back to the room…forgot camera…hmmm…pool or club house or out to the ocean…? Oh, there is something else so stunning to take a photo of…so then the hunt for the phone begins again…and so on and so on… The days wonderfully meandered on like this. Each night, we had a great massive group dinner with our crew, more great conversation and then off to sleep in one of the most comfortable beds I have experienced. Lots of sweet dreams and the next day was the same. Waking up to the sound of the ocean just steps away and to morning rain storms and to the laughter of little kiddies running wild with joy in this stunning setting.
Anyhooooo…I am just going to cut straight to the photos. I have a million more that I will share over the next few days…but here is a glimpse.
The hotel is managed by the smart and lovely Ali Jeronimo and her team Lliliany and Melania make sure that everything is perfect for guests. They make you feel welcomed…they make the this luxury boutique resort feel like a home away from home.
I am going back next year.
Happy Tuesday!
