ROOM IN CHECK – ROOM TO LOVE 2.21.14

gingham check checkered fabric covered walls in a living room

Am a huge fan of fabric covered upholstered walls…am also a huge fan of anything in a gingham check.  Imagine my delight when I found this little gem of a room…where everything from walls, to windows, to furniture is covered in a black and white gingham check.  Sounds like it would be too overwhelming…but in reality it looks so cute and cozy.

Note to self (and TE)…in future, take a small room and go completely gingham style!

Design non-sequitur…found this adorable knit top and skirt by Narciso Rodriguez to match the room.  Camouflage of sorts for a gingham check room!

P.S.  Just realized I still haven’t shared photos from last weekend in Ojai with my guy TE.  Will get to it  this weekend or next week!

What a great way to make a statement! I think that part of what makes the pattern repeat so effective is the richness of the textures that interact with the crispness of the pattern. The gilt and the sisal – both the same tones, but one formal and one casual – and the texture of all the books combine to make it all work. I am drawn to the new greens that we are seeing everywhere. Isn’t is nice that they are making a comeback?

Oh, while I admit gingham check is adorable in itself and I like it in all colors, I have to say that a room full of it would be unbearable to me! I admit, it’s a matter of personal taste and beauty is subjective, but I can only tolerate it in small amounts.

Part 2 - Marathon. So as the saying goes, “if at Part 2 - Marathon. So as the saying goes, “if at first you don’t succeed, try try again.” I will run a marathon. I will hit the road again, train again and I will run. Watch me. Last Sunday, however, wasn’t my marathon day...
I made the best of it nonetheless. If I couldn’t run, I was certainly going to be part of LA spirit and cheer the runners on.
As many may know, I was supposed to be running the Los Angeles Marathon last weekend. After 14 weeks of training and finishing my 19 mile run, I strained a muscle. I went to physical therapy every other day hoping I could still run, but the pain was still there the day before the marathon so I had to call it.
But an injury didn’t stop me from being there. I showed up to Rodeo Drive anyway.
I watched the elite runners fly by, tracked friends, and ended up cheering for three hours. Fast runners, struggling runners, and the later runners still grinding it out.
A friend texted saying she knew the day must have been hard for me. But honestly, it wasn’t. It was just fun, inspiring, and electric.
I will be on the road soon...running a race! Can’t wait!
