I gulped and said “Pink?”.
She replied resolutely “PINK.” Then she added, “I love pink. I have some pink pillows and a pink throw and a pink painting and you remember those antique chairs they are covered in pink.”
With that, I realized, there was no questioning the color choice. AM was thinking absolutely pink and there was no changing her mind.
I have to admit I was skeptical at first (especially after she also said “What do you think about pink AND orange?”).
BUT… the minute I saw her white and pink loft, I was blown away by how strikingly wonderful it all looked. In fact, it was beautiful!!!
The bright white walls, the beautiful white furniture (which included a Jonathan Adler Lampert Sofa, Lampert Lounger and Jonathan Adler pillows), the flirty pink accents (rug is from ABC Carpet & Home, the striking art (which comes from AM’s own art gallery V&A), the bright white antique book cases, chairs and accent tables and the regency style screens that she backed with a fun bright orange fabric (screens from House Eclectic)…all made for a colorful and delightful space.
The loft was a wonderful juxtaposition of modern and classic, detail and simplicity, curves and straight lines, pink and white.
AM’s place definitely made a positive and memorable design statement in NYC…when I was visiting and out at a party with her in NY one weekend, we ran into a guy she had met once before…he said “I know you. I was at your apartment for a lovely party…you’re the girl with the pink loft…right…what a great place?” AM simply smiled and nodded and then smiled some more…delighting in her pinkness.
Have yet to see AM’s new Soho loft. Can’t wait to see what she’s done with it.
Tip of the day: A tip I gave AM as she was starting to decorate, start with a neutral and monochromatic palette (in this case it was white) with your walls and major furniture pieces…then add your splashes of color from there.
Photo Note: I took these photos with AMs camera on the day of her baby shower (i threw the shower along with her sister and sisters-in-law).
