SEE THIS HOUSE: WHERE COLOR AND PATTERN PLAY A STARRING ROLE!

October 10, 2011

dining room in katie ridde's home with apple green wall with prints of birds, an indigo wall console table, upholstered purple chairs with gold trim, a discoball chandelier and a dark wood table with two Chinese garden pots holding purple hydrangeas

Found this home in talented  New York designer Katie Ridder’s portfolio…

This home in the South features an eclectic mix of colors, patterns and textures…unique, interesting and cheerful come to mind when I look at these images.  The disco ball like chandelier in the dining room along with the apple green lacquered walls are the biggest design surprises…but they all seem to work in the space.

I like this design…full of surprises indeed.

Foyer in Katie Ridder's home with pendant light, sea grass wallpaper, dark wood floor, Moroccan chairs, staircase, and a grey moulded door
Sea grass wall paper adds warmth to the home’s foyer. (above)
Living room with a tufted mint green sofa, Moroccan inspired patterned rug, a cane chair with a blue cushion, white french doors and a green coffee table in Katie Ridder's home
A tufted sofa, a Moroccan inspired patterned rug and a cane chair all work harmoniously in the home’s family room. (above)
Library in Katie Ridder's home with a bold brown and cream graphic rug, rattan blinds, a plaid armchair across a Chinoisserie desk, blue walls with encasement windows covered in floor length floral curtains
The bold graphic rug, the floral drapes, rattan blinds, plaid arm chair and the Chinoisserie desk make the library home office into a visually interesting space. (above)
Alternative view of the dining room with apple green walls with framed prints of birds, purple chairs, a graphic grey and white rug, a disco ball pendant light, an encasement window with floor length patterned curtains and a blue-grey wall console
And then there is the dining room! Apple green walls, purple chairs, a graphic rug and a disco ball mirrored pendant light above make for a stylishly bold play on a traditional dining space. (above)
Vanity in a master bathroom with blue cabinets, marble counters, and a stool with a blue velvet cushion

What do you think of the colors and patterns in this home?  Is there a room that works for you?  I actually really love the bird prints against the green wall in the dining room…too bold of a color for me to use in my house…but I would certainly love to spend a wonderful evening in that dining room!

Happy Columbus Day!  Happy Monday!

Thank you for these gorgeous color and pattern combinations. Love all the rooms but wish I had that study with its Chinoiserie desk and plaid chair! I know my writing would be so much more inspired.

Love the foyer, especially the door. The dining room green and upholstery purple are very exciting indeed, and the bird prints are great. Happy Columbus Day down there, and Happy Thanksgiving up here! 😉

Can anyone tell me where one finds such gorgeous patterned rugs as in the “Morrocan inspired” rug in that family room photo? Would love to know…THX

Are we sure that is a rug and not tile on the floor? LOVE this house!

I have been coveting those bird prints for years since I saw them used in an inspired home decor. These colors take a fearlessness that many people can’t handle, but the study with it’s clever use of prints, plaid, painted furniture, and tile-type design on the rug and rattan at the windows
just hits the perfect grace note. Lovely design.

I absolutely LOVE all the bright colors in this home. Its makes everything so vibrant and jump right out at you. It reminds me of a fabric that I didn’t think anyone would like (because there were bright colors in it) and it turned out that a bunch of the designers I do business with locally ALL bought pillows with it.

I like Katie Ridder’s work, but I’m having a hard time with the trim painted a different color in every room.
I keep thinking what a pain it is to paint out trim or the cost to have a painter come in. Maybe I should just enjoy the show.
Congratulations on all your store locations.

That dining room is really something spectacular. Just enough whimsy to keep it fun, but still really cozy and personal. Love it!
