THIS OR THAT: SOFA OR SECTIONAL!

June 8, 2012
  • Share
Living room with a large white sectional, glossy dark floor, glass coffee table and modern art

Have been looking at a lot of sectionals lately…helping out a friend who asked a question about good looking sectional sofas.  I’ve never really thought about sectionals until the last few days.  I could never have one…not until I move out of my tiny tiny tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills…so I’ve never even pondered them.

Well, after looking around, I found quite a few sectionals I really liked.   So I ask myself…if I had a big space for a family room with a big family…would I go for sectional or sofa?

Here are two living areas (I think dens)…one modern and sleek with a huge sectional (above)…the other a little more traditional with a sofa and few armchairs (below).  Which do you prefer?  That’s the question in today’s THIS OR THAT!

Traditional living room with built in bookcase, sofa, ottoman and dueling armchairs

So which of these rooms do you prefer…the sleek modern with the huge comfy sectional or the more classic with the traditional seating…do tell?

Also, please check out COCOCOZY Pinterest and my Fantastic Furniture board to see some of my favorite sectional picks!

Happy Friday!

P.S.  I will be doing a giveaway on Tuesday…so stay tuned!

P.P.S.  I finally have a story planned in advance!  Woohooo.  Whoa hoa!  Woot woot!  Monday’s post is going to be awesome…inside a chic Hollywood party with tips from a fab Los Angeles trendsetter.

P.P.P.S.  This week, have been drinking vegetable juice from a local juice bar…lips are dry…is that weird?  Feel healthier but have dry lips.  I know…strange…

P.P.P.P.S.  Too much information…I know.

P.P.P.P.P.S.  If you know where the first photo comes from, please let me know…I saved it the other day and did not save the source!  I will update source below if anyone lets me know! Update: Thank you to reader AmyK for leaving a comment that jogged my memory on the source for the first photo. It has been added!

Easy choice for me…the sofa, chairs and ottoman. I feel like I’d be sitting ON the sectional vs. sitting IN the sofa or chairs. Easier to cozy up in the sofa/chairs! xo

I love both, depends on the feel of the room. Sectional is much more casual to me. I’ve been specifying a lot of them lately though, especially for TV watching spaces.

Love the sofa setting but, I love a sectional ’cause you can do so many different arrangements… I still have 3 pieces of an old sectional, slipcovered and using in my house now

I remember when sectionals were out, now they’re back in, but a sofa never goes out of style!
    Happy weekend.

Sectionals always remind me of the 70s, one of interior design’s all-time low points. So I much prefer sofas.

Ohhh interesting thought to ponder!! Ok, so going by the pics you put up – i definitely like the sectional in the modern modern space. Usually modern spaces dont appeal to the lounger in me… but this one at least makes you wanna cozy up on the big bad sectional! so in this case, i prefer a sectional in a mod living area.

    i still like a sofa too 🙂

PS – im one week two of juicing!! last week, i solely did the juice fast, this week, im doing solid foods (healthy) too. I am loving the way my skin looks and how good ifeel. i almost (almost ok.. not totally) dont have to have coffee in the AM because i have so much energy. not sure about the parched pout though… kinda odd?

I like the compromise: Sofa with a chaise. I’m tall. I need to stretch out!

Here’s a source for the sectional photo:

Love both rooms but shall go with the sectional. I bought my sectional in 1991 and have had it reupholstered twice. Have new look since the end of the year in that back cushions were made less tall and firmer and piping was added. One part is a “room divider” so that I have a hallway between bedrooms and bathroom.

I think it depends on the space. A sectional is great to curl up on and watch a movie but I love the look of a sofa and chair.

I’m liking the more traditional sofas. That sectional is just begging for a coffee stain. That and the lines seem a little too sharp for me, too.

Thank you AmyK! You jogged my memory regarding the photo source! I didn’t get it from the site you mentioned but had found it on Kelly Behun’s own site. Photo credit added!

Met with some buyers, had a fun time with the Welspun team, then capped off the weekend with a visit with friends. It is a long process to get bedding in stores across the country...showing the collections at textiles market is one of the first steps!
If you're interested in learning how I have gotten @cococozy products into stores around the country over the years including in major retailers...follow along...just one entrepreneur's journey. :)

Today is my birthday but...I don’t want to celeb Today is my birthday but...I don’t want to celebrate...I want to help.
I want to make a meaningful impact in our greater Los Angeles community suffering from the fires. I invite you to join me in transforming birthday wishes into support for one local organization on the ground in Pasadena/Altadena.
I have made a contribution today already to the LA Fire Relief Fund created by @victorybiblechurch in Pasadena. They are actively assisting families in need in both Pasadena and Altadena who have been affected by the devastating Eaton Fire.
Although I don't have a personal connection to Pastor DeCuir or the church, I was searching for an organization that is helping in the Altadena area. A well respected civil rights attorney I follow @leemerrittesq is on the ground helping the church members and community members with legal services in the wake of the fires. I hope by contributing to their efforts, we can extend a helping hand to those facing significant challenges during this difficult time
To donate, please visit their website at https://vbcpasadena.org/ (link in bio as well). Every contribution, no matter the size, brings hope and relief to those who need it most. Tell them you heard about them from me.
Your generosity to the Los Angeles community is the best birthday gift I could ask for.

Happy New Year! 🎉✨ As we step into this freshHappy New Year! 🎉✨ As we step into this fresh chapter, I’m reminded of the beauty of starting anew and I like recommitting to goals at the top of the year. Nothing set in stone but just an overall vision of what I'd like to do and who I would hope to help along the way.
This year, my mantra is: **dream big, act boldly, treasure the small joys, continue to lead with kindness and to have as much empathy as possible for others **. Just a few things...😂
I’m also deeply committed to helping people who follow along to achieve their dreams. I'll be curating captivating interior design inspiration with COCOCOZY that will hopefully give you ideas and dreams for your own space. I will also be empowering you to realize the value of your influence with Chirpyest by earning cash back for sharing and shopping. I hope to be open about the journey of the COCOCOZY product line. I want to share real time behind the scenes how the line is being built and how we are growing Chirpyest; both examples of the not so linear journey of building businesses from the ground up. I hope these stories spark you to push your own boundaries and shake out of your comfort zones.
Lastly, in 2025, I’m committed to surrounding myself with people who have a positive vibe about them while striving to be that same light for others. Luckily, I have a great start on this with an amazing family and fantastic group of friends - a fantastic support network.
My wish for you in 2025: May this year bring you clarity, courage, and the confidence to pursue all that makes you happy.
What’s one thing you’re committing to in 2025? Let’s inspire each other in the comments! 💬❤️
Let's get to this...am ready 2025!
