5 Black-Owned Brands to Support for Juneteenth

June 17, 2022
  • Share

The holiday of Juneteenth celebrate the day Texas enforced the Emancipation Proclamation of 1862. President Abraham Lincoln issued the proclamation to free slaves. Unfortunately, took over two years for the news to reach Texas. The federal holiday, also known as “Freedom Day” celebrates the day African American slaves were officially freed.

The COCOCOZY team rounded up some of our favorite black-owned brands to celebrate Juneteenth. We’ve also included organizations that give back to the black community. The holiday is this Sunday, June 19th.

How to Celebrate?

President Biden recognized Juneteenth as a federal holiday by signing the bill in 2021. Now people are celebrating the holiday all over America. The National Museum of African American History and Culture is hosting events to help educate and share historical stories of African American ancestors. CNN will also be broadcasting a marquee event: Juneteenth: A Global Celebration for Freedom starting at 8pm EST. The best way to celebrate the holiday is by supporting black artists, brands, authors, small businesses, etc. If you’re looking for more ways to support the black community for Juneteenth, check out this list of organizations below:

Organizations to Support

The Equal Justice Initiative

Dream Defenders

Juneteenth Foundation

Black Youth Project

Building Bridges, Inc®

Thurgood Marshall College Fund

I hope this helped you learn more about the Juneteenth holiday. Happy Juneteenth!

Coco

A great bathroom isn’t just functional, it’s the one room in the house that’s entirely yours. The stone you choose, the way light hits the fixtures, the tub you actually want to sit in. These are the ones that get it exactly right.

Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸 Here’s a little throwback toHappy Labor Day! 🇺🇸
Here’s a little throwback to a Labor Day dinner party I hosted a few years ago, and honestly, we’d still do it this way. 🥂✨
Hosting this Labor Day? Keep it simple:
• Set the table with one statement detail + neutral basics
• Choose a menu you can prep ahead so you’re not cooking all night
• Add candles or flowers to make the table feel special
• Serve everything family-style for a more relaxed feel
• Don’t overthink it. The best dinners are the ones where everyone lingers a little longer 🤍
Save this for your next dinner party and send it to someone who’s hosting! 🍽️

The bouclé sofa isn’t a trend, it’s a commitment. The bouclé sofa isn’t a trend, it’s a commitment. Soft, sculptural, and impossible to walk past without wanting to sit down. The rooms that get it right pair it with something unexpected: a dramatic mural, an antique screen, a city skyline, a hand-laid mosaic floor.

A well-designed bunk room isn’t just for kids. It’s about making every guest feel like they got the best bed in the house. Built-in storage, thoughtful lighting, and bedding that actually makes you want to climb up top.

This Toronto home just redefined “warm modern.” 🤎 This Toronto home just redefined “warm modern.” 🤎
Designer Ashley Montgomery layered reclaimed wood beams, brass hardware, and deep walnut millwork against soft plaster walls, and somehow every single room still feels calm. The olive built-ins in the living room, the arched oak doors, that brass shower enclosure in the primary bath... this is what happens when someone actually commits to a palette.
Swipe through and tell us which room you’d move into first. 👇
