6 WAYS TO DECORATE WITH BLACK WALLS

May 20, 2014
  • Share

Using black as a design back drop can be quite striking.  A dark wall acting as what I am calling a “black drop” can pack a design punch.  I have noticed the trend of going black with walls.  I am an all white wall type of girl but I think this black wall look can be sophisticated, dramatic and quite stylish in some cases.

Here are 6 ways to decorate with black walls:

1)  Tile a black wall – Love the look in this bathroom with the cement tiles on the floor, white walls all around and the feature black wall with large field tiles. (below)

2) Paint a built in black – Great cozy library space with black walls and black built in book shelves and white coffered ceiling. (below)

3) Go black on the kitchen cabinets – Below is a striking black small kitchen with stainless and silver accents.  This works! (below)

4) Black shiny walls in a dining room – Amp up the chic in your dining room with semi gloss black painted walls.  Make sure to add in some wall molding for detail and visual interest. (below)

5) Black textured wallpaper – Find some solid black wallpaper with a bit of texture to it (perhaps a sea grass) and add it to a bedroom wall or in hallway! (below)

6) Black brick wall – Have some exposed brick that is not looking so good exposed…consider painting it black for a modern sleek look. (Note: I love exposed brick walls so if your wall doesn’t need to be painted don’t do it!) (below)

Would you dare to do a black wall in your house?  I think I would stick with white walls in mine but I applaud and admire anyone brave enough to take the design leap and decorate with black walls!  My favorite is the very first picture in the post of a modern kitchen with marble island and black sleek cabinets.  Tres chic in my view!

Happy Tuesday!

P.S.  Today is the last day of ICFF in New York today!  I forgot to mention.  Mirth Studio is showing an amazing collection of  painted wood tile floors there…including COCOCOZY wood tile floors.  These are wood floor tiles painted with my designs on them.  If you are at ICFF, make sure to stop by Mirth Studio in booth 307 to take a look at my tiles and so much more.

I love the bathroom and the bedroom. When black is used correctly, be it furniture or decor it can look super stylish. Great inspiration :O)

Long tables arranged in a maze-like formation created a striking design, while still allowing 350 guests to move throughout the space. A rich brown and gold palette brought warmth and depth, paired with refined tabletops and lush floral centerpieces.
