A PIED-A-TERRE IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE – WHY NOT?!

November 11, 2010
  • Share

Living room in France with a white stone fireplace, white sofa with blue striped accnet pillows and an ikat throw, an upholstered ottoman with a white cushion and black legs, and saltillo tile floor

Who wouldn’t love a pied-a-terre in France? Loving this photo of this small living room in an apartment in Biarritz, France. Feels fresh, rustic and cozy all at the same time. Restrained character and casually chic. Adore it.

Two of my aunts and an uncle live in Biarritz year round. My mother lived in this beach town in the south of France too for a few months. My sister visited there last summer. Cousins have all vacationed there too. I am one of the few family members who have yet to visit Biarritz! It is on the to do list.

At one point, my mother was thinking of taking an apartment in Biarritz…just a little vacation place to spend some time each year. This is what I imagined that apartment would look like. Mom decided against it but maybe she’ll reconsider after seeing this post! Hint hint!

Happy Thursday!

I love the cool simplicity of the living room. It was also a bonus to read that your family lives there, I am from there as well!

    Coco,
Biarritz is my hometown! My parents who live there are actually visiting me here in Seattle…You should definitely go there. When you do, plse tell me; it would be so fun to meet there!! I try to go every year in the summer. An absolute to see: the Basque linen with its colorful stripes!
    Thanks for this wonderful post!

Old-world plasterwork meets contemporary furniture, and warm brown-stained wood quietly anchors every room. A conversation between heritage and modernity that never raises its voice. By @atelierdaaa 🤍

Did you know one Sunday a month, the Champs-ÉlyséeDid you know one Sunday a month, the Champs-Élysées closes to traffic entirely?
No cars. Just people, walking straight down the center with the Arc de Triomphe ahead. Then I walked home over The Seine. It had just rained, and the sky was doing something extraordinary. And of course, the Eiffel Tower showed up right on cue.
Paris on a quiet Sunday is something else. 🖤

This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millo This St Germain apartment, designed by Félix Millory @felixmillory , is defined by two things: a tightly controlled material palette and a sculptural art collection that runs through every room without exception.
Travertine frames every doorway. Dark smoked oak covers the joinery and cabinetry. Grey marble runs across the kitchen counters and island. Within that framework, figurative sculptures on the shelves, a large totemic piece at the entrance, stone forms on the dining table, a large-format artwork in the kitchen. Every room has at least one object that demands your attention. 🗿
→ Save this if you’re designing around a sculpture collection.
