7 Ways to Use 2017 Pantone Color of the Year – Greenery

April 24, 2017
  • Share

Just a few weeks ago, the people who decide all things color trends came out with a trend color forecast for 2018.  My response to this 2018 trend forecast is – “not yet”. I sas, “Wait. Please.  I feel rushed.”

I am feeling this enormous pressure because I haven’t even had time to take in and consider this year’s Pantone Color of the Year yet. Arggghhhhh!  The 2017 Color of the Year was announced back in December.  I know.  I am behind.  I am getting to it now. So I need to beg the color trend people to hold the roll out of 2018. For me, I am just warming up to 2017 and I need time.  Time to savor in it all including the color du jour.

“The color”  as most of you know, is a shade of green, Pantone is calling Greenery (15-0343).  Today I bring you 7 ways I would use the color of the year in home decor.  Take a look and let me know if you have any other ideas…

12 Stunning Two-Toned Kitchens

April 4, 2017

Must love a great two-toned kitchen.  Right? Because of my new COCOCOZY Color Block rug collection, I am all about the color blocking in home decor this season.  About a year ago, my mother had her lower cabinets painted a lovely blue and her upper kitchen cabinets painted white. It is nice to have a mom who is instinctively ‘on trend’!  Love the idea of juxtaposing large monochromatic blocks of color in a room.  I am doing a room makeover for a girls’ room right now.  My little “clients” love pink.  I decided to give them a color blocked room with a perfect pink ceiling and white walls.  It turned out sooooo cute.  So since I am all about two-toned spaces and things…today I bring you 12 stunning two-toned kitchens.  Hope you enjoy!

So…if you are following along on my instagram account you will see that I am currently vacationing in the Dominican Republic!  It is lovely here.  I am staying at my friend’s boutique resort, Playa Grande Beach Club.  It is a charming spot right on the water with beautiful ocean views and amazingly charming architecture.  One of the things all of the house here have are amazing vaulted ceilings.  High ceilings make even the smallest space feel light and airy and grand.  Note to self, find a house with vaulted ceilings.

Here are 11 stunning vaulted ceilings for your viewing pleasure!

8 Perfect Off the Shoulder Tops for Spring

March 21, 2017
  • Share

In just a few days, I am off for a spring break holiday in the Dominican Republic. Going with best of friend AM, her hubby JE, our friend MR, all of their kids (AM has two and MR has three kids) and SFJ is joining us too!  MR’s hubby JR can’t make it so on this trip, JE and SFJ will be outnumbered!!  When MR, AM and I get together on vacation, it is always fun and a little chaotic (in a good way).  It will be so much fun.  Cannot wait.

Anyhoo…that brings me to off the shoulder tops.  Am so happy this style is still in this season.  About two years ago, these shoulder baring tops made a resurgence in fashion and now it looks like the trend has become a fashion staple.  Here a few I am liking for spring.

9 Noteworthy Rustic Wood Ceilings

I listened to one of those TED Talks this weekend.  It was all about decision making and choices.  Basically, the whole hour was about making decisions and feeling good about those decisions.  Picking and sticking with it.  It was perfect as I went into my weekly weekend house hunt.  I was listening to the TED Talk as I was driving around every random neighbor hood in Los Angeles, looking a potential houses.  My takeaway was that I had to pick a neighborhood, decide that I am actually going to buy a house and commit.

So what does this have to do with noteworthy rustic wood ceilings?

This 300-year-old Belgian château redesigned by a This 300-year-old Belgian château redesigned by a French interior designer and architect, Nathan Litera @nathanlitera is a beautiful reminder that good design isn’t about replacing the past, but learning how to live with it. You see it in the preserved millwork, the original fireplaces, the parquet floors, and then in the quiet contrast of contemporary lighting, cleaner silhouettes, and restrained color.
The magic is in the balance. The newer pieces don’t compete with the architecture. They feel intentional, calm, and completely at ease. Nothing is overly styled. Nothing distracts. History stays front and center while the space still feels entirely livable today.
Here’s how to bring that same feeling into your own home:
* Keep your base timeless — neutral walls, classic materials, architectural details if you have them
* Let contrast do the work — modern lighting or furniture against traditional bones instantly updates a space
* Edit your palette — keep colors within a tight range and let texture and form do the talking
* Invest in materials — marble, wood, plaster. They age beautifully and never feel out of place
It’s not about recreating a château. It’s about understanding the feeling that quiet kind of luxury that doesn’t need to announce itself.
Save this for when you want your space to feel layered, timeless, and truly considered. ✨

Sharing with you a day in my life here in Paris. ESharing with you a day in my life here in Paris. Every day for the last few months has been the greatest day ever here. Even days that are not event filled feel special in Paris.
Started with French class on this day. I was taking classes at L'Alliance Français because living here means actually trying to belong here and speak the language.
Then off to the Hôtel de Crillon @rosewoodhoteldecrillon ,a historic palace hotel overlooking Place de la Concorde, known for its timeless interiors and quiet kind of luxury, catching up with a friend like it was the most ordinary thing...in extraordinary place.
So even though nothing momentous happened...wanted to show you what my every greatest day life looks like in Paris.
This city keeps surprising me. 🖤

A soft touch of pink, layered into the space. Not A soft touch of pink, layered into the space. Not overpowering, just enough to warm everything up, walls, upholstery, even the smallest details.
It shifts the mood completely. Calmer, softer, and a little more lived in.
Save this if you’re leaning toward softer, warmer spaces. 🌸

What makes the Saint-Martin Apartment in Paris so What makes the Saint-Martin Apartment in Paris so hard to look away from is the deliberate clash Sophie Dries @sophiedries_ created and didn’t try to resolve.
The bones of the apartment are pure Haussmann: ornate cornicing, carved boiserie, a marble fireplace with a gilded mirror. Everything a 19th-century Parisian apartment should be. Then she placed a near-black dining table with brass-legged stools into the middle of it. A raw concrete-look bathroom behind the grandeur. Dark, sculptural objects on surfaces that were built for delicate things.
It works because she didn’t try to blend the two, she let them sit in contrast. The apartment feels lived-in and specific because of it.
→ Save this if you’re mixing old architecture with contemporary furniture.

Are you into paper lanterns, or do you prefer a more structured statement light? 🧐
