The Story Behind the Cottage Renovation
Stanley Falconer, the late director of design at Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler, previously owned the cottage. He already featured unique design details and additions that drew the attention of the current owner. Stanley had placed his particular stamp on the property, from antique rim locks, timber paneling, and elm flooring. The present owner, however, realized there wasn’t enough space for her big family. She needed to add an expansion.
The Handpainted Kitchen
Maybe the most enchanting room in the house. So much detail! Will Foster Studios hand-painted the cabinets in the kitchen, which were designed by Carlton Smith. The cabinets are made of French wood with Silestone’s ‘Yukon’ countertops. The backsplash behind the over are 18th-century Portuguese tiles.
The Green Dining Room
The dining room is rich in character. The wallpaper is Zoffany’s ‘Verdure’ wallpaper in tapestry green. To add a vintage twist, she added French mirrors sourced in Paris and an 18th-century marble-topped Italian console table.
The Upstairs Landing
The floral ‘Petit Parc’ wallpaper by Pierre Frey creates an elegant and warm atmosphere. on the landing. The trim is painted olive green for an interesting contrast.
The Charming Bedrooms
When the owner moved into the house in 2013, she eliminated a windowless dressing room to expand the primary bedroom. Luis Maximo, a Portuguese upholsterer, fit a four-poster bed draped in florals from Bennison Fabrics between its sloping walls. The guest bedroom features bed curtains in Bennison Fabrics’ Pondicherrylinen textiles.
The Teal Primary Bathroom
The blue hues continue in the primary bathroom. The wall color is Farrow & Ball’s Parma Gray.
Cotswold Garden and Outdoor Space
The attractiveness of the cottage extends beyond its interiors, with a garden that oozes romance and tranquillity. The existing garden was enhanced with the help of historic landscape specialist Sarah Cotter Craig and designer Phillippa May. The cottage garden features everything from wild daisies and peonies to rose bushes. So dreamy!
