Butler stand and tray from West Elm (above)
Did a CHEAP TO CHIC post on the x-bench and/or x-stool – a small stool or bench with a base or legs that are in the form of the letter “x”.
Now the “x” is back and has hit side tables, nightstands, bedside tables and tray tables. X-based small tables are everywhere and really seem to be all the rage. Probably because the clean lines and modern look work so well when coupled with the interesting design detail of the cross shaped base. Also, might be rather “a la mode” because they are small, easy to move around, and nice to look at too. Use next to a sofa or couch, right by a bed with a table lamp on top, or in dining room next to a buffet to hold glassware and cocktail mixers (ooohhhh…just thought…some of the tray table versions could be wonderful for holiday entertaining)!
That is why x-base tables are today’s Cococozy CHEAP TO CHIC:
cb2 – Formosa Tray Table – $39.95 (folding chromed X-base. Willow wood veneered tray with white lacquer is waterproof, heatproof) (above)
Z Gallerie – Biscayne Bar Table – $149.95 (faux croc bar tray tabel with polished chrome folding x base) (above)
Pottery Barn – Walker Bedside Table – special $199; regular $229 (mahogany wood and mahogany stained veneers make up nightstand with folding base and top with opening for storage) (above)
Plantation – Silver Butler Tray Table – $675 (modern designer accent table with a tray top and polished nickel bamboo styled legs) (above)
William Sonoma Home – Hudson Side Table – $795 (x-base wood side table or nightstand in white or cocoa brown stain, drawer with nickel pull) (above)
Baker – Ramses Lamp Table – $3,640 (Silver plate over brass x-base with black leather upholstered wood top using French gainage technique. Egyptian inspired design) (above)
P.S. My favorite is the table from Plantation…I like the bamboo like detail on the stand legs.

Your blog is an inspiration, I’ve been looking for good ideas for a side table in the dining room and the “X” tray table is it! Thank you.
Thank you for posting these side tables. I’ve been on the hunt for white sides! The Williams-Sonoma Hudson side table is listed for $1300+ on their website. Did you find it for less elsewhere? Thank you!
