Modern floor to ceiling windows provide a picturesque view and backdrop to a dining room…candy cane bentwood chairs look artfully elegant surrounding a sleek modern farmhouse style dining table. (above)
Another space to love from design team Jesse Carrier and Mara Miller of New York based Carrier and Company. On their website, they describe their designs as both “familiar and fresh”…a phrase which I interpret to mean a style that incorporates modern mixed with timeless traditional or vice versa.
Anyhoooooo, love the way they’ve used a classic side chair style in a very modern space. These curved wood bistro chairs (or cafe chairs) with a candy cane design on the back – a derivative of the traditional and ever popular Thonet #14 or #214 Bentwood Chair first developed by German born cabinet maker Michael Thonet in the late 1800s – add a touch of softness and elegance to the sleek lines of this ultra modern dining room. Reminds me of a chair you might see at a classic French bistro or cafe.
A new take on a traditional farmhouse table – a straight edge wood table with a zinc top provides seating for six in a convenient eating area right next to an all white modern open kitchen. Industrial type beamed and board ceilings reminiscent of being in a warehouse add an industrial and urban touch to the room. (above)
Love this space!
What do you think?

I LOVE the industrial kitchen. Beautiful!
The lyrical lines of the Thonet style chairs bring just the right amount of movement into the starkly linear kitchen/dining room
Sweet!
the first dining room is stunning. simple, elegant and filled with laughter of friends and family. i hope to have one just like that someday..
I like that although this kitchen is modern, it’s still warm 🙂
Love the zinc topped table….xv
