9 Iconic Homes from Movies and Television

November 5, 2021

The art of making a fantastic show or movie isn’t just about great characters. It needs an iconic setting. Whether that is in an apartment with six friends or inside an old mysterious mansion. A movie or tv show will have a lasting impression if the character’s home is memorable. I recently toured one of my personal favorites, the Beverly House that was featured in The Bodyguard. It is a Spanish Colonial Revival with a gorgeous garden and pool. It was a cool experience to tour an iconic location. It was also hectic because I kept being asked to stop taking videos of the house. I couldn’t resist! I highly recommend going on tours of famous homes from movies and tv shows. Just be more discreet with your phone than I was.

The photo above is known as the Wollaton Hall located in England. Several movies have filmed on location including The Dark Knight Rises and Netflix’s Princess Switch. Wollaton Hall was built by Sir Francis Willoughby between 1580 and 1588. The hall is also the host for the Natural History Museum.

Check out my other blog to get a tour of the Beverly House.

When Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet’s characters switched houses in the Christmas film, Diaz vacationed in a charming cottage known as the Rosehill Cottage. That particular cottage is actually fictional. It was inspired by the Honeysuckle Cottage that is located in Holdbury St Mary.

The home that launched Will Smith into stardom has recently been seen on The Late Late show with James Corden. Corden tried to convince Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to buy the home. The exterior of the home was the only part of the house that was used for the show. The interiors were designed on a soundstage at Columbia/Sunset Gower Studios.

Nour Arida’s (@nouraridaofficial) Paris apartment Nour Arida’s (@nouraridaofficial) Paris apartment was designed to feel like a little piece of Beirut — a pied-à-terre that keeps her connected to Lebanon while living in France.
Architect Carl Gerges @carlgergesarchitects built the whole interior around warmth and softness: a caramel sofa, a pink kitchen, milky whites throughout. Nothing sharp, nothing cold. The palette reads as indulgent without trying. It’s the kind of space that feels like it was chosen for comfort first and aesthetics second, even though both are clearly considered.
What’s easy to miss is the restraint underneath it all. The softness works because it’s disciplined. Every piece earns its place in the same tonal story.
→ Save this if you’re building a warm, tonal interior from scratch.

Why do Paris apartments feel so much better than e Why do Paris apartments feel so much better than everything else?
While living in this cute 3 bed 2 bath apartment in the 6ème, I realized it comes down to a few things done really well:
• High ceilings
They create space without adding anything
• Herringbone wood floors
Classic, subtle, and never go out of style
• Crown molding + ceiling medallions
The detail that quietly elevates the entire room
• Interior French doors
They give you openness and separation at the same time
• Natural light
The one thing you can’t fake
I’m staying in this adorable pied-a-terre for a two months. It is my sister and brother in law’s place; they invited me to cozy up here on my own while they are back home in LA.
Every room keeps proving the same point. It’s not about adding more. It’s about getting the foundation right.
If you could only bring one of these Paris apartment design elements into your home, which one would it be?

I remember building each outfit around a coat or a scarf, with comfortable shoes that could take me anywhere, knowing I would be out for hours just walking.
Nothing overthought, just pieces that felt right for the pace of the day.
What would be your OOTD for a cold day in Paris?
