My House – Spanish Style Courtyard

August 22, 2017

This is where I live now.  A charming Spanish style home nestled in a Beverly Hills canyon.  I couldn’t be happier to finally settle somewhere.  Long story on how I ended up here…that will be for another day.  Today, before work, having a cup of tea and enjoying the lovely courtyard view.  If you follow me on Instagram and watch my instatories, you know that at the beginning of the month, I moved in.  I have totally stressed myself out trying to get everything looking good immediately.  One of my friends at work, KS, told me to calm it down and enjoy the process of decorating.  I couldn’t…I spent the last few weeks obsessing over details and changing things around…and now I am partially satisfied…but the tweaking will continue.

Today I wanted to give you a glimpse of one of the outdoor living spaces at the house (Case de COCOCOZY I am calling it).  The white Spanish style exterior with blue trim is sooooo charming.  I have brought in all of my plants, outdoor furniture, lights, umbrellas (not shown here) and even COCOCOZY Tower Court outdoor rug!  Here’s a tour of how it looked yesterday on the day of the solar eclipse!

Best of friend AM and I found this little black metal cafe table set at an antique store last weekend in North Hollywood!

I am so lucky to have a design driven best friend AM.  She and her family came this weekend.  They were my first visitors.  AM helped me pull together the finishing touches on EVERYTHING.  In the courtyard, she even painted accessories for me…all of the metal lanterns and votive holders that were looking pretty dingy…she appropriated all of them and before I knew it she had a spray paint can in hand and painted them all white.  Thank you bestie!

I love white daisies.  Went to the flower mart over the weekend and bought these pretties.

Off to work now! What might you add or subtract from the courtyard?  Comment below.  Would love to know!

P.S.  You will be seeing a lot of this house.  Every nook and cranny.  Hope it inspires you and your design.

    Hi Coco!
Congrats on the new Casa! I would build a half tent to shade and cover the seating area, probably striped or in a Moroccan design. I would immediately change the brown cushions for a blue to match the window moldings. Plant some fuschia bougainvillea and buy some large clay pots which I would paint Majorelle bleu, white and yellow. I’d use Yves Saint Laurent’s Majorelle in Morocco as inspiration. As a fellow Angeleno, I love Neo Spanish Colonial architecture. West Hollywood has quite a few Spanish courtyard buildings and they all utilize Moorish design, Spanish tiles etc. Santa Barbara is another Mecca of inspiration. Meanwhile, Bonne Chance!

You need some height and shade. Get 2-3 large terracotta pots and plant some trees (possibly flowering ones). By growing trees in pots, you can move them around to create different vignettes or ‘rooms’, when you want to change things around.

I’m in love. What a gorgeous outdoor space-my favorite thing about California is the year round outdoor living. Can’t wait to see the rest of the house.

Natural light is the one thing every room has in c Natural light is the one thing every room has in common here, but the window shape, wall material, and time of day make each one feel like an entirely different experience. ☀️
It’s a reminder that light isn’t just a condition in a room. It’s a design decision.
→ Save this if you’re thinking about how light works in your own space.

This 300-year-old Belgian château redesigned by a This 300-year-old Belgian château redesigned by a French interior designer and architect, Nathan Litera @nathanlitera is a beautiful reminder that good design isn’t about replacing the past, but learning how to live with it. You see it in the preserved millwork, the original fireplaces, the parquet floors, and then in the quiet contrast of contemporary lighting, cleaner silhouettes, and restrained color.
The magic is in the balance. The newer pieces don’t compete with the architecture. They feel intentional, calm, and completely at ease. Nothing is overly styled. Nothing distracts. History stays front and center while the space still feels entirely livable today.
Here’s how to bring that same feeling into your own home:
* Keep your base timeless — neutral walls, classic materials, architectural details if you have them
* Let contrast do the work — modern lighting or furniture against traditional bones instantly updates a space
* Edit your palette — keep colors within a tight range and let texture and form do the talking
* Invest in materials — marble, wood, plaster. They age beautifully and never feel out of place
It’s not about recreating a château. It’s about understanding the feeling that quiet kind of luxury that doesn’t need to announce itself.
Save this for when you want your space to feel layered, timeless, and truly considered. ✨

Sharing with you a day in my life here in Paris. ESharing with you a day in my life here in Paris. Every day for the last few months has been the greatest day ever here. Even days that are not event filled feel special in Paris.
Started with French class on this day. I was taking classes at L'Alliance Français because living here means actually trying to belong here and speak the language.
Then off to the Hôtel de Crillon @rosewoodhoteldecrillon ,a historic palace hotel overlooking Place de la Concorde, known for its timeless interiors and quiet kind of luxury, catching up with a friend like it was the most ordinary thing...in extraordinary place.
So even though nothing momentous happened...wanted to show you what my every greatest day life looks like in Paris.
This city keeps surprising me. 🖤

A soft touch of pink, layered into the space. Not A soft touch of pink, layered into the space. Not overpowering, just enough to warm everything up, walls, upholstery, even the smallest details.
It shifts the mood completely. Calmer, softer, and a little more lived in.
Save this if you’re leaning toward softer, warmer spaces. 🌸
