My House – Interior Paint Refresh

August 21, 2017

This weekend, I had the first party at my new place.  It was soooo much fun.  Best of friends AM and JE were in town with their kiddies; they were all staying with me at my new Beverly Hills casa.  I decided to throw a casual “Taco Night ” party for them and 40 of my family (sis DS, cousins etc) and dearest and best L.A. friends (BN, SN and more).  The party went off flawlessly, except for the fact that I was in the shower when guests arrived! The taco guy was a hit and so was the house!  It was so much fun finally having a place to call home and to invite everyone whom I love the most!

So, the scoop on the house….I moved into the house exactly three weeks ago.  Wanted to give you a tiny glimpse at the before and after.  I’ll do a big reveal later.  When I first saw this three bedroom, two bath Spanish style home in the canyons, it was desperately in need of a makeover and lots of brightening up.  I turned to premium paint company Benjamin Moore for my colors.

I knew I wanted to go with white for the walls and paint one area a greenish blue.  Who knew though that there were so many choices for white.  I went and bought at least 15 samples of Benjamin Moore paint and swatched walls in the living room and dining room.  As you can see, the walls surrounding the swatches were all a strange yellow…my painter said it was really old paint.  It was probably some sort of beige but over the years had turned yellow.

My plan was off with the yellow….and brighten with the white. I started with 12 different Benjamin Moore Whites (Patriotic White, Chantilly Lace, Decorator’s White, Snow White, Pure White

I ended up choosing the following colors.

  • Benjamin Moore Super White OC 152 (all over the house)
  • Benjamin Moore Newburg Green HC-158 (living room nook)
  • Benjamin Moore Jamestown Blue HC-148 (living room nook ceiling)

BEFORE – This little living room nook was dark and a little moody but had lots of potential!

DURING – This is what it looked like as the Newburg Green HC-158 was going up in the nook.

AFTER – AHHHHH! Yes!  The nook looks brighter even though I went with a dark blue/green paint.  And the white walls work!

My new Moroccan pendant contrasts well with the Jamestown Blue on the ceiling of the nook.

AFTER – Benjamin Moore Super White made all of the difference!

I will be sharing more of my house over the coming weeks and months and years of course!  Big thank you to Benjamin Moore coming in for the rescue with all of the paint!

Happy Monday!

Wow I love the nook colors and the beige chair is perfection. Where did you buy it may I ask?

A great parquet floor doesn’t just ground a room. A great parquet floor doesn’t just ground a room. It tells you everything about the history of the space. The patina, the pattern, the way light moves across it. These are the rooms that prove good bones never go out of style.

Designer Emma Donnersberg took her own Paris apartment in the 7th arrondissement and used it to rewrite the rules — classical bones, contemporary everything else. Her Wave Sofa and U&Me Table anchor the living room in organic curves. In the kitchen, a green ceramic-wrapped island does the heavy lifting for color against all that neutral stone. And the dining room? A Carrara travertine fireplace that turns stone into the whole point of the room.
Curved, curated, and completely hers. 🤍

A little peek at one of my favorite outdoor spaces, which I designed years ago. The patterned tile, navy seating, white stucco, and layers of greenery make this balcony feel like a little room all its own.
I love how much personality you can create in a small outdoor space without making it feel overcrowded.

Want a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and invitingWant a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and inviting? Start with these simple changes:
1. Layer your bedding. Mix sheets, a duvet, quilts, and throw blankets to create that plush, lived-in look.
2. Add warm lighting. Swap harsh overhead lighting for bedside lamps, sconces, or a statement light with a warm glow.
3. Bring in plenty of texture. Think linen, velvet, boucle, chunky knits, and soft rugs.
4. Keep the palette warm and calming. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, and muted colors instantly make a room feel more restful.
5. Mix in natural materials. Wood, rattan, woven accents, and stone add warmth and character.
6. Make the walls feel personal. Art, photographs, or even a statement headboard can make the room feel more finished.
7. Add something organic. A vase of branches, fresh flowers, or a little greenery can bring the room to life.
The goal isn’t to make your bedroom perfect. It’s to make it feel like a place you actually want to retreat to at the end of the day.
Save this for your next bedroom refresh. 🤎
