LACQUER, LUCITE AND POLISHED METAL – NEW JONATHAN ADLER COLLECTION

November 24, 2008
  • Share

White lacquer desk with an X base and polished nickel legs from Jonathan Adler
Jonathan Adler – Channing Desk – $1750 (White lacquer and polished nickel with lucite knobs. X base polished nickel legs. Two drawers) (above)

Jonathan Adler named this collection after Bette Davis’s character Margot Channing from the cinema classic All About Eve. A dramatic name for a dramatic furniture line. Shiny, gleaming and glistening, this high gloss group is eye-catching, enthralling and engaging…the same characteristics you might want in a good movie.

My favorite of the group is the Channing Desk. I love the lacquer finish and the polished metal x-based legs…reminds me of a drafting table of sorts.

What I like about the buffet and the end table is that they could pretty much be used in any room…perfect for a living room, dining room, bedroom or even a sleek modern family room. The buffet and side table could be Hollywood glam or seem to have even a little Asian inspired feel to them too. Multifaceted furniture!

These pieces all seem to hint to the past while maintaining all of the clean line sensibility of modern furniture design.

The lucite (clear plastic or acrylic) knobs are a wonderful touch.

Don’t bother trying to order it. Its been back ordered for 2 years, and there aren’t enough to even fulfill the orders that are still waiting from 2 years ago. And its crap. I wouldn’t normally say this, but well, I work there.

Try Room Service in La or Newport. They have a similar line called boca. I don’t know if they have this desk, but they have similar dressers, and side tables. They make all their own furniture in their warehouse in LA, so they can probably make the desk as well.

It is warmer here now, but these were the looks I It is warmer here now, but these were the looks I reached for in Paris when the days were still cold. ❄️
I remember building each outfit around a coat or a scarf, with comfortable shoes that could take me anywhere, knowing I would be out for hours just walking.
Nothing overthought, just pieces that felt right for the pace of the day.
What would be your OOTD for a cold day in Paris?
If you want to shop these looks, comment SHOP and I will send you the link.

It’s the depth of velvet that changes a space. A l It’s the depth of velvet that changes a space.
A little softness, a little sheen, and suddenly the room feels lived in and elevated.
Would you bring velvet into your home?

It started with an invitation. I met @hugobesnier_ It started with an invitation. I met @hugobesnier_ , founder and designer of luxury furniture brand @hartisparis_ at a small gathering in the 7ème, near the Musée d’Orsay. I was there with my new friends, Scarlette and Sarah.
The apartment itself was incredible! Tall ceilings, terrazzo floors, right along the Seine, but what really stood out was the furniture.
Turns out, it was Hugo's exquisite work.
The pieces are designed around everyday gestures: sitting, leaning, resting, but interpreted in a way that feels elevated and intentional. There’s a balance of structure and softness, where architectural lines meet more organic textures and forms.
He invited me back the next day to see everything more clearly, outside of the party setting, and it completely changed how I experienced it. The pieces feel intentional and refined, with a strong focus on material and form.
Sharing a closer look at his work here.
My Paris dream life keeps happening again and again!
