MODERN TRADITIONAL HAMPTONS BEDROOM

January 30, 2014
  • Share

Last Updated: 4/7/23

The pattern on pattern in this very lovely girly but sophisticated bedroom in the Hamptons was designed by Kemble Interiors.  I don’t know how to describe this style but I like it.  I think I will call it “Modern Traditional” – an oxymoron in name but when put into play the two styles definitely work!  Very traditional furniture – Queen Anne canopy bed, scalloped bench, the demi lune sofas, Gustavian side chairs and chintz upholstered slipper chair – juxtaposed with modern textiles and prints – with gray vine wallpaper, the wild chevron pattern rug, and the dotted fabric pillows.  Yin and yang. Traditional yet modern. Kemble is known for timeless coastal designs in Palm Beach, Hamptons, and New York.

Hamptons Primary Bedroom

The primary bedroom in the Hamptons home.

My guy TE is very modern in his take on home furnishings…I have more of an eclectic style that incorporates modern pieces with time-tested classics.  Wonder what TE would think of this girly master bedroom.  Hmmm… Is this a girl’s girl room or could guys love it too?  Thinking about that.

Oh…did I mention the turquoise-blue painted dome ceiling in the sitting area.  Love.

Schumacher Coastal Grasscloth Wallpaper

The true star of this home is the beautiful wallpaper from Schumacher. It adds an elegant coastal flare. Schumacher’s wallpaper is stunning! I love it because it has a wonderful combination of embellishments and natural textures. Still has a coastal twist that works for a Hamptons bedroom. It creates a serene vibe to any room, making them the ideal wallpaper for the bedroom. I particularly like the coastal chambray blue hue since curates a calming atmosphere, which is ideal for unwinding after a long day at the beach.

A Coastal Canopy Bed

I envision pristine beaches, expensive estates, and sophisticated interior design when I think of the Hamptons. Most primary bedrooms in the Hamptons include a romantic canopy bed. This room is no exception.  A canopy bed provides a sense of luxury to a room. It’s also a great focal point for a large bedroom. The Antonia Metal Canopy Bed from Pottery Barn is an excellent example of a canopy bed that would look great for your bedroom. Create a serene Hamptons-style bedroom in your own home.

About The Hamptons

The Hamptons are famous for their magnificent houses, lovely beaches, and sophisticated way of life. There is a fine balance between modern and classic elements when creating a Hamptons home. In this blog, we’ll take a deeper look at Kemble Interiors’ spectacular modern traditional Hamptons primary bedroom.

My favorite elements in this traditional space are the wallpaper, the ceiling, and the canopy bed.  What do you think?  Like all of the patterns play here?  Do comment below.

Happy Thursday!

P.S. Press Alert! – Our Coco’s Flower rug is featured in this month’s HGTV magazine.  Good friend JH from the NYC area emailed me to say she saw it in a magazine!  I had no idea!  Was a thrill to see my rug design in print!  Wooohooo!!!!

I’m a complete sucker for a good pattern mix. Love the statement it makes especially in grey neutrals since it’s not too bold for daily living. That last vignette is beyond! Very regency-esque..love!

Thank you for visiting and hope to see you back for my top organizing tips from the pro!

Loving the blue hue of the dome ceiling! In the bedroom, that wallpaper is really visually interesting, but I also like the peacock statue.

    Congrats on getting in print!!

Spectacular. The ability to mix all of those patterns and decorative elements requires a sure hand.
    Thanks.

It’s really interesting that you can combine such different, rich patterns and they fit each other quite well, I’m surprised. The whole place looks great, I like the Mod-Trad (have you thought of such abbreviation yet :)?) styling, except for the bedside table, that’s like 1950s in the 1800s environment to me. But otherwise – the room is really cool!

I agree with you on the blue ceiling and that patterned grasscloth. Stunning.

My backyard. Literally! A little piece of paradise My backyard. Literally! A little piece of paradise at home.✨🌷 This view is right outside my bedroom window - the house has a beautiful hillside of greenery instead of a traditional yard. I love this view. Whenever people come over they ask if the hillside is part of the property and I say yes. Even though I know how beautiful the view is and I love that I wake up to a wall of green outside the window at the foot of my bed, I rarely walk on the winding path on the hill. I never noticed how majestic the scale of the hillside was until until I saw my goddaughter Chloe walking around outside the other day! Here’s a reminder to find the beauty even in your backyard.
