Simple Steps for The Perfect Thanksgiving Tablescape

November 2, 2022
  • Share

Sometimes we spend so much time on the food menu that we forget to prioritize the Thanksgiving tablescape. Don’t get us wrong….the food is obviously important. It’s the star of the show. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have the perfect stage to display our hard work. Set the tone for the dinner with elegant utilitarian pieces and fabulous festive finds. Learn how to plan the perfect tablescape for the fall holiday with little to no fuss.

The rustic and layered tablescape.

Let’s start from scratch…shall we? Planning the perfect thanksgiving tablescape comes down to three essential steps: basics, layers, and the final touches. There’s no need to design an over-the-top table. It’s all about highlighting the focal points. Also, keep in mind that the table should be both beautiful and functional.

The Basics

Every table has standard requirements. Here are the key table elements that every tablescape needs.

  • A tablecloth, runner, or placemats
  • Dinnerware (plates, bowls, salad plates, etc.)
  • Glassware
  • Utensils
  • Napkins

Pro Tip #1

Decide prior to planning the tablescape if the food will be served on the table or at another location for a buffet-style experience. This will determine the type of decor that are placed on the table and the scale of serveware.

The Layers

Enhance the basics with unique layers to add dimension and character. This is the time to get creative and add personality to set the tone for the holiday.

  • Charger plates
  • Decorative accents
  • Napkin rings
  • Candles
  • Place cards for your guests (for more formal settings)
  • Menus for each place setting (for more formal settings)

Tip #2 – Fall Theme Tables

Include the following decorative accents to highlight the fall season: pumpkins + gourds, apples, & colored foliage. The color palette should include warm earth tones and harvest-themed prints.

The Final Touches

The final touches will bring the entire look of the table together. This is the time to make edits and switch out things that don’t complement the table. It’s important to pay attention to the proportions of the decor compared to the table. The centerpiece shouldn’t be blocking the guests’ view. Make sure nothing is too large or too small. The perfect finishing touch is a beautiful floral arrangement.

Pro Tip #3

To create a cohesive table, use the same texture and materials for most (not all) serveware. Stick to wood cutting boards and bowls for a more rustic look. Invest in ceramic dishware and serveware for an elegant tablescape.

Ever wondered what it feels like to have the Eiffe Ever wondered what it feels like to have the Eiffel Tower as your view? These 7 Paris spaces answer that — some hotel suites, some private residences, and each one framing it completely differently. 🫶
A gilded suite where it peers through silk drapes. A terrace set for breakfast with the Tower straight ahead. Contemporary apartments where open French doors bring it almost into the room. Classic Haussmannian grandeur on one end, sculptural modern interiors on the other; same iconic backdrop, seven entirely different ways to live with it.

The approach was deliberate restraint: restored cornices kept intact, stained oak floors, limestone tones, a mix of vintage furniture and contemporary silhouettes. Every choice earning its place. The light does the rest. Bouncing off mirrors, moving through the neutral walls across the day. 🔅

That level of control is what makes the result so specific. Rich materials, sculptural forms, cinematic lighting but nothing feels decorative for its own sake. Every detail was considered as part of one complete vision, and you feel it in every room. ✨
