MY AWARD SHOW WARDROBE

February 11, 2015

I think I mentioned to you all that TE got us tickets to the Grammy Awards this past Sunday.  Most girls would say YES! immediately…well not I said the fly.

So just last Thursday, TE casually mentions…”I think I got the tickets”…when I looked puzzled, he jutted out his chin and clicked his head to the right and said “The tickets to the Grammy Awards.”   Uhmmm…I do believe that I had no idea and/or never heard that we were going to a major entertainment awards show but once I found out, my 3 day dilemma raged on…   I wanted to go with TE to the Grammy’s because it would be a fun night out with my guy and because I had never been but due to aforementioned injury (mentioned in another post) where I fell and scratched up my face, I was hesitant to go.  Oh did I mention the age old dilemma of not having a thing to wear. I fretted on COCOCOZY Instagram to all of the nice followers there and they suggested I put on some make up, wear something with a bit of edge and  just go! Thank you everyone for your advice!

So off I went to sister DS’s house on Saturday afternoon where she had an array of beautiful dresses and gowns waiting for me to try on.   Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta and more – they were all laid out on her bed for me to pick from…my own personal chic shopping at my sister’s house.  Anyway, we ended up picking a long halter Oscar de la Renta gown and another red dress as my options.  DS is so sweet and she, TE and I had a fun time…each time I tried on a dress, she told me the story of why she got it.  Was a good visit AND I walked away with some options.

Well the best laid plans…the next day, the weather felt like 75 degrees and the options I had taken from sis DS were the velvet Oscar de la Renta and a ruched red dress that needed a fanciful necklace that she had to dress it up.  It was too hot for long velvet and I forgot the necklaces at DS’s house.  Argghhhhh….

So into my closet I dove.  There I found this beauty…a Prada dress that I’ve had for 10 years.  I wore it to best of friend AM’s rehearsal dinner in February 2005 and really haven’t pulled it out since.  It was perfect.  Found in my own closet.  Now I did pair it with a very chic black beaded Judith Leiber purse also courtesy of sis DS. (P.S. I know DS will want me to return this fabulous formal clutch…but as a sneaky younger sister, I will do my best to find a way to hold onto this darling handbag for dear life (my sister is so busy that she will never read this post and figure out that I openly plan to pilfer her purse…my mother on the other hand does read every day…so she might feel sorry for her eldest daughter and remind DS that I have her belongings!  I will cross that bridge when I come to it…until then…must find another fancy event so I can wear this “borrowed” bag!)

Back to my old school Prada.   It is strapless taffeta with a cut out…it is two toned…olive and black on top…with a beaded thick band…and a 3/4 length tiered skirt…I know it sounds weird but it actually looks pretty good.  Here are the details pictured here.  One of these days I’ll reveal all of me…but until then…here is a little glimpse!

By the way, TE looked quite dashing in a Hugo Boss jacket in navy with a contrasting black lapel and a Rag & Bone crisp white shirt.  The awards show was actually a very fun concert.  I would go again!

Happy Wednesday!

P.S.  That thing under my right arm is a wrap that my sister made me take…TE was confused as to why I was taking a square of material with me…I explained that it was a scarf/wrap/pashmina necessary for very cold cold award show theaters…he didn’t argue but I could tell he still didn’t understand…meant for awkward photos as I tried hide said scarf/wrap/pashmina under my arm!

This 300-year-old Belgian château redesigned by a This 300-year-old Belgian château redesigned by a French interior designer and architect, Nathan Litera @nathanlitera is a beautiful reminder that good design isn’t about replacing the past, but learning how to live with it. You see it in the preserved millwork, the original fireplaces, the parquet floors, and then in the quiet contrast of contemporary lighting, cleaner silhouettes, and restrained color.
The magic is in the balance. The newer pieces don’t compete with the architecture. They feel intentional, calm, and completely at ease. Nothing is overly styled. Nothing distracts. History stays front and center while the space still feels entirely livable today.
Here’s how to bring that same feeling into your own home:
* Keep your base timeless — neutral walls, classic materials, architectural details if you have them
* Let contrast do the work — modern lighting or furniture against traditional bones instantly updates a space
* Edit your palette — keep colors within a tight range and let texture and form do the talking
* Invest in materials — marble, wood, plaster. They age beautifully and never feel out of place
It’s not about recreating a château. It’s about understanding the feeling that quiet kind of luxury that doesn’t need to announce itself.
Save this for when you want your space to feel layered, timeless, and truly considered. ✨

Sharing with you a day in my life here in Paris. ESharing with you a day in my life here in Paris. Every day for the last few months has been the greatest day ever here. Even days that are not event filled feel special in Paris.
Started with French class on this day. I was taking classes at L'Alliance Français because living here means actually trying to belong here and speak the language.
Then off to the Hôtel de Crillon @rosewoodhoteldecrillon ,a historic palace hotel overlooking Place de la Concorde, known for its timeless interiors and quiet kind of luxury, catching up with a friend like it was the most ordinary thing...in extraordinary place.
So even though nothing momentous happened...wanted to show you what my every greatest day life looks like in Paris.
This city keeps surprising me. 🖤

A soft touch of pink, layered into the space. Not A soft touch of pink, layered into the space. Not overpowering, just enough to warm everything up, walls, upholstery, even the smallest details.
It shifts the mood completely. Calmer, softer, and a little more lived in.
Save this if you’re leaning toward softer, warmer spaces. 🌸

What makes the Saint-Martin Apartment in Paris so What makes the Saint-Martin Apartment in Paris so hard to look away from is the deliberate clash Sophie Dries @sophiedries_ created and didn’t try to resolve.
The bones of the apartment are pure Haussmann: ornate cornicing, carved boiserie, a marble fireplace with a gilded mirror. Everything a 19th-century Parisian apartment should be. Then she placed a near-black dining table with brass-legged stools into the middle of it. A raw concrete-look bathroom behind the grandeur. Dark, sculptural objects on surfaces that were built for delicate things.
It works because she didn’t try to blend the two, she let them sit in contrast. The apartment feels lived-in and specific because of it.
→ Save this if you’re mixing old architecture with contemporary furniture.

From classic to modern, rustic to minimal, the pap From classic to modern, rustic to minimal, the paper lantern just fits. It softens the room, diffuses the light, and rounds out even the sharpest architectural edges without demanding any attention. 🏮
Are you into paper lanterns, or do you prefer a more structured statement light? 🧐
