Paris Apartment Living – Joseph Dirand Style

October 12, 2017

My mind has been swirling lately with all of the craziness in the world. Today, I am finding my refuge in escapist beautiful aspirational images of living spaces. This is not to say I am tuning out of what is going on…I am so concerned and I encourage everyone to stay alert and aware, to be understanding and helpful to our fellow citizens and to engage, to speak out when you see wrong and to use your votes to act. Over the last year, I have been so busy.  I have been finding it hard to carve out time to blog. Every time I am just about ready to write a blog post, some political crisis or natural disaster strikes and I am so shell shocked about the state of the world (our country in particular) that I cannot bear to write about what I love – design. This last week, I am finding refuge in my website…not bury my head in the sand kind of refuge…but recharge my soul kind of refuge, pick up my chin, and stand tall (or kneel) and face what is going on around us all.  Recharging is necessary these days…don’t you think?  That being said…today I bring you beautiful beautiful Paris apartment living in an Avenue Montaigne home designed by French architect Joseph Dirand (have a huge crush on his design sensibility).  Unique, classic, modern…Paris ultra modern at its best…the closet and the floating marble counter in the kitchen are certainly my faves…take a look….

Such a pretty space.

Just conclude…

Twice in the last two weeks, I woke up, read the news and immediately cried. I cannot believe we are where we are on so many fronts…it is so disheartening to know there are people (including our President) out there who are fanning the fire of division and hate. My boss, at my day job, was in Las Vegas at the concert last week…her tale of escaping the shooting is terrifying…she was with her teenage daughter. I cried hearing her story too. My friend VA’s family home was devastated in the hurricanes in the Caribbean. My good friend CF just had to move her wedding from Napa due to the raging fires. It is too much.

What is my take away here? I would love to wrap this one up with a bow. I can’t really wrap it up neatly…but I can try to wrap it up. I knew it would get awkward for me to address current events on this site…I like telling entertaining humorous stories with a good beginning, middle and a positive end. I don’t have a perfect end to this one yet.

Maybe I just want you all to know…I am not clueless about the world. I also respect differing opinions. This, however, will not become a current events blog. I want to continue blogging in these times about design. I need to do it to recharge…and maybe through these images of places and things we find beautiful, we can all feel a sense of togetherness, community, and recharging – all key to reaffirming our common bonds.

Happy Thursday! We will get through these times together! We have to!

This 300m² Haussmannian duplex in central Paris wa This 300m² Haussmannian duplex in central Paris was designed to function as both a home and a gallery and the distinction between the two is impossible to find.
Every room treats art and objects with the same weight as furniture, nothing is decorative for its own sake, everything is placed with intention.
The Haussmannian bones, ornate cornicing, herringbone parquet, original stained glass ceiling, stay intact throughout. Natural and handcrafted materials do the rest.

So proud of my dear friend Kristi Bender and her b So proud of my dear friend Kristi Bender and her business partner Wendy Schwartz on the launch of Petal Promenade for @cuff_studio. 👏
This new collection feels like such a beautiful evolution. Inspired by their Manhattan Flower District showroom, it brings together the romance of classic decorative arts with a fresh, modern perspective in a way that feels bold, artistic, and incredibly thoughtful.
If you are attending ICFF 2026, make sure to stop by Booth W1048 and experience Petal Promenade in person. Congratulations, Kristi and Wendy. This collection is truly something special. ✨
