The dining room in my family’s summer rental apartment in Paris. (above) |
So my sister and mother are in Paris right now. Lucky them. Right now as I write this they are probably enjoying a tea or a champagne cocktail at my favorite people watching spot in Paris – Les Deux Magots (some think this cafe is for tourists, I think it is perfectly set in the center of Saint-Germain-des-Pres at a corner with perhaps the best people watching in the world).
Every summer for probably the last 10 or more years, my mother gets a large apartment in Paris for two or three months and invites me and my sister to come (one year I even had 5 friends come stay with me in the apartment after my mother headed back to California…that was fun).
This year for the first time in years, her summer lease is in the 8th Arrondissement…a stone’s throw from Place de La Madeleine and just blocks from the chic shopping mecca Rue du Faubourg Saint Honore. Normally our apartment has always been in Saint-Germain-des-Pres, in the 6th, right on Rue Jacob…this year mom decided to change things up a bit. The summer in Paris is usually punctuated by trips to neighboring countries and a visit down to Biarritz to visit aunts (MP and LB) and uncle (JP) who live in the south of France year round.
So here are some interior photos that sis DS took with her iPhone of this new Paris family summer rental. From what I can tell, I’m loving it – the architecture and the decor works too. High ceilings, herringbone wood floors, a metal iron work fireplace in the living room and more I’m sure.
I can’t seem to get DS to take other pictures and get a shot of the exterior of the building. She is too busy flitting from one place to the next…meeting up with friends who are in Paris…and prancing around town with my mother. Such is the life! Lucky DS (she deserves it by the way. Sis DS is a busy lawyer who works round the clock when she is here at home…so this getaway will be good for her)!
For the past two summers, I have not been able to enjoy the summer place. Last summer, I took my summer in New York to scout the New York International Gift Fair instead of going to Paris! This summer, I will be taking my vacation in Atlanta for the Atlanta Gift show and then back to New York in August to show the COCOCOZY collection at the New York Gift Fair for the second time this year. Hmmm….wonder if I could slip to Paris for a few days right after the gift fair in August? Hmmm…maybe…
Must brush up on my French just in case I figure out some way to make it Paris this summer. My entire family is fluent in French and I am the black sheep who has decided that I will masquerade as someone who speaks fluently but really does not know how to properly conjugate anything! In truth, my comprehension is at about 75%-80% but my French verbal skills are at about 40%-50%. Need to make it to Paris to practice!
What do you think of our summer rental? What are your plans this summer…where will you stay? Please send in any photos of interesting vacation decor or scenes from your holiday…and I’ll try to post some reader vacation submissions!
Happy Wednesday!

P.S. Please go to COCOCOZY Twitter to see some of the new yarn colors I will be working with for new COCOCOZY throws – coming to the collection later this summer! Also, added a photo on Twitter of Mr. Boo post grooming! 🙂

Oh so jealous of this apartment! I’ve been to Paris only once, but would love to go back – I hope you can make it!
SO ENVIOUS!! the apartment makes me immediately think of the Paris apartment in the book Sarah’s Key – a very sad book but soo beautiful nonetheless! xo
It looks so very Parisian. Have a wonderful time!! What a great way to brush up on your French…total immersion!
We have a vacation home at the beach in Hilton Head, South Carolina. So we go from living at the Pacific Ocean to vacationing at the Atlantic. This year we are also going to fit in Maui in July. Can’t wait!

How are you not there with them?
That sounds like a great vacation that your family takes every year! Paris! I’ve never been but it’s on my list!
I have the absolute BEST memories of galavanting around Paris with you–you MUST squeeze it in, dear Cococozy! I will live vicariously through your adventures. Please enjoy some steak frites at L’Entrecôte for me!! xox AZ
Those herringbone floors are to die for!
Looks amazing! I’m so jealous! We may be getting back to Paris for a trip pretty soon.
i love that your mom does this! hmm, I will have to keep that one in mind for when my kids get older! LOVE the idea…Great apartment, too!
I love it, it doesn’t look forced or contrived.
I want to go back to Paris too! We will be heading to London and Rome, but definitely hoping to get to Paris too! Fabulous apartment!
How cool is your Mom??!!! I’ll have to remember that for when my kids are grown! Since we are living in Europe we get to see a lot in every direction – it won’t last so we are trying to see as much as we possibly can!!! Next week: Tuscany!
You have a fabulous mother! i will not be going to Paris this summer but to morrow, I am off to Saint Jean de Luz near Biarritz for a long week end to celebrate my parents birthday in a wonderful spa Grand hotel on the Ocean.
I will come and visit you at the gift show and shortly after that will be flying to Tanzania to climb (hike) Kilimanjaro then a safari photo and finally a little R&R in a small island off Zanzibar for scuba diving. I guess that will qualify as my late summer vacation… in between, work, work and no play..
Perhaps you can escape to Paris for just a couple of days.
I am swooning over the fabric on those chairs. My fave color trio! And while Paris IS lovely, it’s Roma for me!
It is great to see non-professionals have passion for design. I love the color on the armchairs very bold. Check out my new design blog at

The Paris place looks so lovely. Wow. And to have the experience while surrounded by family and loved ones. What a treat!
I love Paris around this time of year! You should definitly make an effort to enjoy some Parisian days this year.
I so know Les Deux Magots and I couldn’t agree more with your comment on people watching. I love it too and Paris is one of the best cities in the world to do that.
I was in Rio de Janeiro for a 10 day vacation just last month, but I usually travel in August (for my birthday week) some place in Europe. This year I am thinking Florence, but I have not made up my mind just yet.
