READER SUBMISSION: FAMILY FRIENDLY WITH FINESSE!

Elegant, kid friendly living room in NYC with lavender armchair and sofa, a lucite coffee table, light grey carpeting, two wall mounted lights and two large white cabinets
A lovely lavender, silver and cream NYC living room from interior designer Jennifer Jones (above)

Got this photo last night from interior designer Jennifer Jones of J Logan Interiors in New York City.

Jennifer recently completed this project in a city apartment for a couple with several children. The challenge here: make a space elegant and good looking while also making it family friendly.

Here’s what Jennifer had to say about this design project:

“I was given a task to work with an amazing family with three small children. All of the fabrics are kid friendly and geared toward using their Living Room. I did not want to give them a space that was “off limits”, however, the parents do entertain so the space needed to be elegant, yet practical. Hence, the large cabinet to hide the extra large TV! ”

Nice work Jennifer…the space is sophisticated and the use of soothing colors works…AND it’s kid friendly…wow!

For any of you who want to reach Jennifer, here is her information:

Thank you Jennifer for this great photo!

Readers…hope all of your Thanksgiving plans are coming together! Hope you enjoy this room too.

In full disclosure, Jennifer is my sister. However, because of that, I was able to see this fantastic apartment/room in person. I love New York, but always feel dirty and exhausted at the end of the day and immediately make a beeline for the shower. I had such a day of schlepping to and fro when I went to see this apartment for the first time. It was the end of the day and I was grumpy and tired, but the moment I walked through the front door, I swear I felt like I walked through a bubble bath and was transported to an angelic world of peace and tranquility. Something about the light soft colors contrasting against the dark Manhattan skyline in particular really made me want to take my shoes off and recline on their childproof furniture…without taking a shower.
    It really is awesome.

What a mystical-sounding color palette: lavender, silver, and cream! Love it.

I love the idea of a silver couch. I’m always on the lookout for fairly sophisticated but child-friendly decorating ideas.

I’ve been following your blog for a few months and always feel inspired. I don’t know if you read my previous comments, but I mentioned your blog on in a post of my favourite blogs. You can find it at: http://morethanjustmummy.blogspot.com/2010/11/bloggy-inspiration.html

Want a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and invitingWant a bedroom that feels cozy, warm, and inviting? Start with these simple changes:
1. Layer your bedding. Mix sheets, a duvet, quilts, and throw blankets to create that plush, lived-in look.
2. Add warm lighting. Swap harsh overhead lighting for bedside lamps, sconces, or a statement light with a warm glow.
3. Bring in plenty of texture. Think linen, velvet, boucle, chunky knits, and soft rugs.
4. Keep the palette warm and calming. Soft neutrals, earthy tones, and muted colors instantly make a room feel more restful.
5. Mix in natural materials. Wood, rattan, woven accents, and stone add warmth and character.
6. Make the walls feel personal. Art, photographs, or even a statement headboard can make the room feel more finished.
7. Add something organic. A vase of branches, fresh flowers, or a little greenery can bring the room to life.
The goal isn’t to make your bedroom perfect. It’s to make it feel like a place you actually want to retreat to at the end of the day.
Save this for your next bedroom refresh. 🤎

The right chandelier doesn’t just light a room, it becomes the room. Scale, material, placement. When it’s done right, everything else arranges itself around it.

Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive.Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive. 🌸
One thing I’ve learned is that every outdoor space needs a focal point. It gives your eye a place to land and makes the whole space feel more intentional.
In this courtyard, the bougainvillea naturally becomes that focal point, adding color, height, and movement without overwhelming the space.
If you’re designing your own patio or garden, start with one standout feature, then let everything else support it.
Save this tip for your next outdoor project. ✨
