Am now in London!
Not finished with all of the posts I must do from Paris…but had to interject with a few things British while I am here.
Arrived yesterday afternoon and met good friend AT (an expat living in London), her beau the Silver Fox (a Londonner living in London) and her friend BM (another expat) at the Wolseley for a drink and some food. On Piccadilly just a block from the famed Bond Street, The Wolseley is a classic London restaurant with its over abundance of veiny black marble, lots of shiny black high gloss paint and tons of gold trim.
The people watching at the Wolseley was amazing. First let’s start with the star sightings. We think we saw actor Rafe Fiennes there (he had a buzz haircut) with a very posh crowd of people which included a very attractive woman with a micromini dress. Also, AT says she saw some actress who was on British TV show called “Spooks”. AT also claims she spotted the “guy from Rome”…who?…”the guy from Rome…y’all know him…he’s that guy from the HBO mini series Rome”…ahhh no, never seen him before. Anyhoooo….lots of other good regular folk people watching too. Gotta love the way the British women get dressed up…it was a serious mish mosh of uber tight, overly printed, strangely cut fashion that I believe is “in” here. The champagne cocktails were amazing and I had truly British food which included “bubble and squeak” and Welsh Rarebit (I’ll let you look these up)! I had a marvelous night!
Oh yes…back to interior design!
So I am staying at AT’s cute flat in Hampstead Heath and was finally able to take my own photos of her dining room. It is ADORABLE.
A simple arrangement of candles, decorative vase and a ceramic tree limb candlestick add warmth to this already decorated mantelpiece. (above)
The bones of this apartment dining room are solid. The walls are painted a subtle light grey (or light gray with an “a” as some might say)…very soothing but warm at the same time. The centerpiece of the room is a white very classic fireplace which sports a mantel trimmed with crown molding (or crown moulding with a “u” as the Brits might say). A built in mirror trimmed with laurel molding gracefully rests above the mantel. French doors and a barn door provide entrance and exit from the living room and kitchen respectively. Then, last but not least is a sparkling crystal chandelier which adds brilliance and elegance to this cute space.
The decor is also solid. The dining room’s simple furniture comes from IKEA. The white round table is IKEA’s Docksta Dining Table ($149) and it comfortably seats four. The Docksta Dining Table is a great knock off of a pricey Saarinen table. The white table is surrounded by four black wood chairs also from IKEA (Olle Chair – $34.99). A dark brown and white cow print rug grounds the space and adds dimension to the room with its bold pattern.
