SEE THIS HOUSE: A MODERN COTTAGE REFURB!

April 6, 2011
  • Share
Living room in a cottage with dark wood floor, yellow settees, a taupe armchair, a painted black chest and a Turkish rug

Thank goodness for Courtney Poulos of Brock Real Estate and UrbRefurb blog here in Los Angeles. Courtney sent me photos of this fab modern cottage listing she is just putting on the market on the east side of Los Angeles in an area called Highland Park.

This darling 1922 home was recently refurbished by Steve Jones of Better Shelter. It is now on the market for $479,000. It has 3 bedrooms, 3 baths in 1482 square feet.

Courtney describes the remodel/decor style of this little house as “… “modern cottage” – thrift store, bohemian, eclectic”. (Meanwhile…I call this house “little” when I should actually say “mansion in comparison to my tiny tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills”…makes me feel better to call something else little I guess…denial…anyhooooooooooo…..)

Really cute…really well done…the black and white retro bathrooms are perfection…the dark wood floors work too…and I really love the eclectic chic style of all of the furniture and accessories.

Take a look!

Alternative view of the living room in a cottage with dark wood floor, yellow settees, a taupe armchair, a black writing desk, a vintage chest holding a piece of polished wood, two Turkish rugs and a wooden chest of drawers with sculptures of the female figure, and a red leather armchair
Close up of the black writing desk, wood chest of drawers and the sculptures in the living room in a cottage
Dining room with stained wood floor, wood table, mismatched chairs, a pendant light and an anatomy poster
Kitchen with stainless appliances, white cabinets and drawers, wood counter tops, a farmhouse sink, a stained wood floor and lots of small sculptures
Foyer with stained wood floor, black stairs, a wood desk with busts on it and a natural wood lamp and at the desk is a green wood chair
Bedroom in a cottage with stained wood floor, a red Moroccan rug, a white sofa with green plaid accent pillows and a navy throw with a seal on it, a bed with a metal headboard, a bench is at the foot of the bed and white walls
Bathroom in a cottage with white subway tile with a black border in the shower, white cabinets and a black countertop. On the wall above the sink is a framed piece that says "Don't Give Up The Ship"
Guest bedroom in a cottage with diamond encasment windows, a tan upholstered headboard, a wood nightstand, stained wood floor and art in black frames
Guest bedroom in a cottage with stained wood floor, an orange armchair, a brown chest of drawers, a striped rug, and a brass chandelier
Close up of the sink in the master bathroom's black counter top, white cabinets a mirror hanging from a light without a frame
Master bathroom with white cabinets, black counter top and white subway tiles in the shower with a black tile trim
Master bedroom in a cottage with dark wood floor, a taupe armchair with nail head trim. The bed is in a wood frame and has a green, white and blue striped coverlet

What do you think of this real estate listing? Like it better than the multimillion dollar listings I uaually show in SEE THIS HOUSE? Anything in particular catch your eye?

If you want more information on this listing, you can email Courtney at: [email protected].

Thank you again Courtney for sending this my way!  Readers I hope you enjoy!
Happy Wednesday!

I love that you posted this house instead of a mansion. The walls and floors definitely have that “clean slate” vibe to them and all the furnishing really pop of the mix of dark and light. I don’t know if I can get down with half a mil for a 1400 sq ft house (SoCal = So Expensive!)… but I love how it looks!

The presentation is excellent. It should be in a textbook on real estate staging and photography. Every sales factor was carefully considered and faultlessly executed. __ The Devoted Classicist

What I admire and respect about this house is that it feels like a home. It’s COZY. It may not be the most stylish/contemporary house I’ve seen but when I can imagine myself living in it, that’s when I’m sold to a house.

I could move right in and can easily picture myself living in this space. That’s the secret to great staging. I love the bathrooms in particular.

The wall art is amazing! So inspired and unique. It really says a ton about the homeowner- which is exactly what wall art should do!

Behind-the-scenes: Fun work trip to visit the COCOBehind-the-scenes: Fun work trip to visit the COCOCOZY bedding collection at the Welspun showroom in New York. Met with some buyers, had a fun time with the Welspun team, then capped off the weekend with a visit with friends. It is a long process to get bedding in stores across the country...showing the collections at textiles market is one of the first steps!
If you're interested in learning how I have gotten @cococozy products into stores around the country over the years including in major retailers...follow along...just one entrepreneur's journey. :)

Today is my birthday but...I don’t want to celeb Today is my birthday but...I don’t want to celebrate...I want to help.
I want to make a meaningful impact in our greater Los Angeles community suffering from the fires. I invite you to join me in transforming birthday wishes into support for one local organization on the ground in Pasadena/Altadena.
I have made a contribution today already to the LA Fire Relief Fund created by @victorybiblechurch in Pasadena. They are actively assisting families in need in both Pasadena and Altadena who have been affected by the devastating Eaton Fire.
Although I don't have a personal connection to Pastor DeCuir or the church, I was searching for an organization that is helping in the Altadena area. A well respected civil rights attorney I follow @leemerrittesq is on the ground helping the church members and community members with legal services in the wake of the fires. I hope by contributing to their efforts, we can extend a helping hand to those facing significant challenges during this difficult time
To donate, please visit their website at https://vbcpasadena.org/ (link in bio as well). Every contribution, no matter the size, brings hope and relief to those who need it most. Tell them you heard about them from me.
Your generosity to the Los Angeles community is the best birthday gift I could ask for.

Happy New Year! 🎉✨ As we step into this freshHappy New Year! 🎉✨ As we step into this fresh chapter, I’m reminded of the beauty of starting anew and I like recommitting to goals at the top of the year. Nothing set in stone but just an overall vision of what I'd like to do and who I would hope to help along the way.
This year, my mantra is: **dream big, act boldly, treasure the small joys, continue to lead with kindness and to have as much empathy as possible for others **. Just a few things...😂
I’m also deeply committed to helping people who follow along to achieve their dreams. I'll be curating captivating interior design inspiration with COCOCOZY that will hopefully give you ideas and dreams for your own space. I will also be empowering you to realize the value of your influence with Chirpyest by earning cash back for sharing and shopping. I hope to be open about the journey of the COCOCOZY product line. I want to share real time behind the scenes how the line is being built and how we are growing Chirpyest; both examples of the not so linear journey of building businesses from the ground up. I hope these stories spark you to push your own boundaries and shake out of your comfort zones.
Lastly, in 2025, I’m committed to surrounding myself with people who have a positive vibe about them while striving to be that same light for others. Luckily, I have a great start on this with an amazing family and fantastic group of friends - a fantastic support network.
My wish for you in 2025: May this year bring you clarity, courage, and the confidence to pursue all that makes you happy.
What’s one thing you’re committing to in 2025? Let’s inspire each other in the comments! 💬❤️
Let's get to this...am ready 2025!
