INSIDE A $27 MILLION GRAND UPPER EAST SIDE ESTATE!

October 1, 2010

Front door of an NYC mansion with arched glass detailing

Okay! Wow. $27 million. 27 million dollars!!! That’s right.

Built back in 1903, this Neo Federal style classic home in the 70’s on the upper east side boasts 10,000 square feet of interior space. Lots and lots of rooms and amenities too…a proper traditional house in the city with 11’ ceilings, 9 bedrooms, 9 baths, 3 powder rooms, a staff room, 8 fireplaces, 3 terraces, an elevator, an elegant garden, a graceful oval winding staircase, a Louis XV drawing room, Georgian library, 18th century fireplace mantels, and a 38’ kitchen with solarium. Whoa! What a list!!!!

Meanwhile, just for fun, let’s juxtapose this NYC city mansion’s list of features and highlights and descriptors with the list of amenities for my house. Here’s my home’s hypothetical list of features: a tiny house in the Hollywood Hills hills, with no proper backyard, a roof, someplace to sleep inside, a tiny kitchen, a deck, and a few rooms…the end. Needless to say, one of these homes is not like the other…right?

Anyhoooo…back to fantasy land…did I mention that this home is for sale? The price tag for this historic mansion is a mere $27 million. You have to love the real estate market in NYC!

So take a look and enjoy!

I actually like the grandeur of this one. I would change the pink stairwell to another more neutral color (light grey or white) and would definitely change up the furnishings of course…but the house itself is quite spectacular.

What do you think dear readers?

Happy Friday!

Thanks for posting this! Beautiful home… great bones, beautiful color palette and fabrics. My one complaint (am I allowed to complain about such a grand house) is that there seems to be this weird fascination among uber-wealthy homeowners with populating rooms with *way* too many chairs. It’s kind of insane. I’d be knocking into them left and right. Plus, makes the room feeling lonely when there’s only one or two people in there.

Ummm, I was really chillin with the Pink stair well and black combo. When I was a young girl, a frend live in ‘the Bishop’s castle. I only remember the pink rooms and the square shaped black tub! Yup, pretty swanky for a bishop-don’t you think?

That staircase is awesome! The place makes me think of Fran & The Nanny.

This house was used as Meryl Streeps home in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’.

Good food, beautiful interiors, and time well spent with family.
Always nice to be back here.

Why do Paris apartments feel so much better than e Why do Paris apartments feel so much better than everything else?
While living in this cute 3 bed 2 bath apartment in the 6ème, I realized it comes down to a few things done really well:
• High ceilings
They create space without adding anything
• Herringbone wood floors
Classic, subtle, and never go out of style
• Crown molding + ceiling medallions
The detail that quietly elevates the entire room
• Interior French doors
They give you openness and separation at the same time
• Natural light
The one thing you can’t fake
I’m staying in this adorable pied-a-terre for a two months. It is my sister and brother in law’s place; they invited me to cozy up here on my own while they are back home in LA.
Every room keeps proving the same point. It’s not about adding more. It’s about getting the foundation right.
If you could only bring one of these Paris apartment design elements into your home, which one would it be?

I remember building each outfit around a coat or a scarf, with comfortable shoes that could take me anywhere, knowing I would be out for hours just walking.
Nothing overthought, just pieces that felt right for the pace of the day.
What would be your OOTD for a cold day in Paris?

It started with an invitation. I met @hugobesnier_ It started with an invitation. I met @hugobesnier_ , founder and designer of luxury furniture brand @hartisparis_ at a small gathering in the 7ème, near the Musée d’Orsay. I was there with my new friends, Scarlette and Sarah.
The apartment itself was incredible! Tall ceilings, terrazzo floors, right along the Seine, but what really stood out was the furniture.
Turns out, it was Hugo's exquisite work.
The pieces are designed around everyday gestures: sitting, leaning, resting, but interpreted in a way that feels elevated and intentional. There’s a balance of structure and softness, where architectural lines meet more organic textures and forms.
He invited me back the next day to see everything more clearly, outside of the party setting, and it completely changed how I experienced it. The pieces feel intentional and refined, with a strong focus on material and form.
Sharing a closer look at his work here.
My Paris dream life keeps happening again and again!
