Silver Lake Small Kitchen Remodel – Black Appliance Trend

December 14, 2017
  • Share

So thrilled to bring you my latest project!  A fabulous small kitchen remodel!!!  I was lucky enough to partner with the Whirlpool Corporation and my very talented developer friend Steve Jones of Better Shelter. Steve and I began working on this project a few months back – remodeling this fixer upper 2 bedroom house in the on-trend Silver Lake area of Los Angeles. We got really excited when we were offered Whirlpool Fingerprint-Resistant Black Stainless Steel appliances for the tiny kitchen remodel.  Okay, if you have read the blog over the years you know, I always love a wonderful small kitchen remodel. The blog started because almost 10 years ago because I had remodeled my then really small kitchen in the Hollywood Hills.  Now, this project is particularly thrilling because of the appliances we are using, I get to be at the forefront of the next kitchen design trend…read on to see how…

(This post is sponsored by the Whirlpool Corporation. While I received product and compensation, all opinions are my own)

We started by gutting the entire home. That gave us the ability to start fresh with the small kitchen design in the open floor plan living room dining room combo area.

This was the u-shaped kitchen during the remodel.  Grey panel lower cabinets, white carrara marble and brass hardware were then installed.  The kitchen remodel was on its way.

So now onto the big kitchen trend…

The trend is black.  All things black inside the kitchen.  Kitchen cabinets, counters, knobs and pulls, faucets and now beautiful Black Stainless Steel appliances – refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, and dishwashers.  Yes.  Black. Love the look.  Sleek, modern and classic at the same time.  For this home, we used Whirlpool Black Stainless Steel that are matte finish and finger print resistant.  Today, I bring you our well designed kitchen remodel (if I do say so myself) with grey lower cabinets, white upper, quartz counters, brass accents and a touch of black…

I have a very clear design vision on how a home should look and be remodel.  Steve has a very clear vision on how he wants the kitchens in the homes he remodels to look too.  He balances great form and spot on function in the 100+ homes he has remodeled.  We have different styles but are totally in sync on what works in home remodel.

The minute I saw this particular home that we are partnering on and saw the kitchen in progress, I thought the Black Stainless Steel would put a fantastic modern twist on the space.  Now that I have seen the black appliances installed, I love it.  Steve does too.  The appliances blend so nicely with the grey cabinets and white uppers; they blend in so well but also stand out!

I styled the kitchen simply with some African indigo blue mud cloth fabric as a rug  as dish towels.  I also added in some blue accents, a gold fruit bowl to pick up the hardware finishes, and a few cooking accessories to make the look.  My kitchen at my house is not much bigger than the one in this small remodel house so this look that we designed and that Whirlpool outfitted with Black Stainless Steel s has given me lots to think about! I am saying it here.  Black is the new design trend in kitchens. Good bye stainless, bye to white…here comes black!

Thank you to Whirlpool from me and Steve.  We are thrilled to collab on the appliances for this latest COCOCOZY/BetterShelter project!

What do you think of black appliances?  Like or love?  Comment below.

Happy Thursday!

Love it, love it. In this modern age, with houses getting squeezed, it is so refreshing to look at this makeover. Loved the black color here. I myself particularly enjoy white.

Ohhh love the black appliances so much, I have the older ones that are not matte and chic like this but I still think they are better than stainless which omgggg if you have you know how terrible they are to clean. My friend peggy is always cleaning hers.. I actually just got a matte black faucet and soap dispenser to kind of glam up my kitchen space and pull together the black appliances in a more trendy way. If anyone else is as in love with matte black as me, check out directsinks.com, so many matte black options, I am in love with mine. Got my obsession from cococozy and now I can’t shake it.

Behind-the-scenes: Fun work trip to visit the COCOBehind-the-scenes: Fun work trip to visit the COCOCOZY bedding collection at the Welspun showroom in New York. Met with some buyers, had a fun time with the Welspun team, then capped off the weekend with a visit with friends. It is a long process to get bedding in stores across the country...showing the collections at textiles market is one of the first steps!
If you're interested in learning how I have gotten @cococozy products into stores around the country over the years including in major retailers...follow along...just one entrepreneur's journey. :)

Today is my birthday but...I don’t want to celeb Today is my birthday but...I don’t want to celebrate...I want to help.
I want to make a meaningful impact in our greater Los Angeles community suffering from the fires. I invite you to join me in transforming birthday wishes into support for one local organization on the ground in Pasadena/Altadena.
I have made a contribution today already to the LA Fire Relief Fund created by @victorybiblechurch in Pasadena. They are actively assisting families in need in both Pasadena and Altadena who have been affected by the devastating Eaton Fire.
Although I don't have a personal connection to Pastor DeCuir or the church, I was searching for an organization that is helping in the Altadena area. A well respected civil rights attorney I follow @leemerrittesq is on the ground helping the church members and community members with legal services in the wake of the fires. I hope by contributing to their efforts, we can extend a helping hand to those facing significant challenges during this difficult time
To donate, please visit their website at https://vbcpasadena.org/ (link in bio as well). Every contribution, no matter the size, brings hope and relief to those who need it most. Tell them you heard about them from me.
Your generosity to the Los Angeles community is the best birthday gift I could ask for.

Happy New Year! 🎉✨ As we step into this freshHappy New Year! 🎉✨ As we step into this fresh chapter, I’m reminded of the beauty of starting anew and I like recommitting to goals at the top of the year. Nothing set in stone but just an overall vision of what I'd like to do and who I would hope to help along the way.
This year, my mantra is: **dream big, act boldly, treasure the small joys, continue to lead with kindness and to have as much empathy as possible for others **. Just a few things...😂
I’m also deeply committed to helping people who follow along to achieve their dreams. I'll be curating captivating interior design inspiration with COCOCOZY that will hopefully give you ideas and dreams for your own space. I will also be empowering you to realize the value of your influence with Chirpyest by earning cash back for sharing and shopping. I hope to be open about the journey of the COCOCOZY product line. I want to share real time behind the scenes how the line is being built and how we are growing Chirpyest; both examples of the not so linear journey of building businesses from the ground up. I hope these stories spark you to push your own boundaries and shake out of your comfort zones.
Lastly, in 2025, I’m committed to surrounding myself with people who have a positive vibe about them while striving to be that same light for others. Luckily, I have a great start on this with an amazing family and fantastic group of friends - a fantastic support network.
My wish for you in 2025: May this year bring you clarity, courage, and the confidence to pursue all that makes you happy.
What’s one thing you’re committing to in 2025? Let’s inspire each other in the comments! 💬❤️
Let's get to this...am ready 2025!
