I currently have a very small kitchen so I love looking at small kitchen design ideas. I think the most creative designing is for small spaces. The question is how to maximize storage and create a stylish space without making your small space look cluttered?
I think these 7 small kitchen designs are done just
SMALL KITCHEN DESIGN IDEAS
- White cabinets – To make your small space feel larger consider white cabinets. The white makes the cabinets disappear to a certain extent and can make the space feel more airy.
- No upper cabinets – Get rid of all upper cabinets and replace with floating shelves or just a really cool backplash. Having the space that is at eye level free of bulky cabinets can help open up a space
- One wall, no island – If you are remodeling and have an option to move things around, try to put your entire kitchen on one wall (see below). This creates an open floor plan that leaves room for dining and living.
- Monochromatic – If you are going for color, try painting the walls and the cabinets the exact same color, creating a striking monochromatic color scheme.
- Pulls are important – Make your design statement with interesting drawer pulls. Even if you are renting, replace existing pulls with something more interesting.
- Bold backsplash – Do not be afraid of a bold backsplash. Keep the rest of your kitchen simple and clutter free then have some design fun with the backsplash.
- Streamline lighting – Make sure your lighting in the kitchen is proportionately sized to the space. Big over bearing light fixtures will make your small kitchen look even smaller. Keep pendant lights or ceiling mount lighting sleek and minimal.
Happy Thursday!

Love your post on small kitchens today and the photos were great! The one that stood out the most for me was the one with the red accent chair, I loved that. Another way to add a pop of color and not take away from the goal of creating a big kitchen feel in a small space is to add a work of art in the kitchen that brings a pop of color. I noticed in two of your photographs, actually maybe three there were works of art included. As an artist I love that, I think every room in the house is fair game for hanging or in the case of two of the photographs propping art work. I recently created a whole series of small scale 4 1/2 x 6″ hand colored lithographs of cupcakes that are bright and cheery just like you would imagine cupcakes would be. Because of their small scale they could be a great addition to any small kitchen space and bring that unexpected pop of color – just like the red chair in the photograph you posted.
Feeling very inspired by the monochrome. Thanks for posting!!!

OH, I’m loving those kitchens, especially the 5th and 6th, clean cut towards minimalistic. Gives me inspiration for a kitchen redo on an apartment I want to buy 😀 Thanks for the post!
Okay I am sold! I need white cabinets. I have a small kitchen and I have searched high and low for tips to make my area appear larger, without using the mirror trick. Thank you.
Beautiful details and I personally love that coral colored barstool but I must admit I prefer an island in the kitchen.
I love these ideas great post for help us to design our Kitchen beautifully all the designs are very innovative and presenting the great ideas to make the kitchens beautiful and newly designed.
I love this! And your pictures are so sweet! Thanks for sharing!
Having white cabinets makes sense if you want to make your kitchen feel bigger. Ours are pretty dark, so we could definitely change that when we redo our kitchen. Unfortunately, we already realized that we wouldn’t have the space for an island. Still, we can maximize the space we do have.
