SPIKE LEE’S $32 MILLION DOLLAR ESTATE – SEE THIS HOUSE

Hallway in a NYC home with french doors, white washed wood floors and Persian rugs

Here is a peek inside the New York City Upper East Side home reported to be owned by filmmaker/director Spike Lee that is currently on the market for $32 million dollars.

The home located at 153 E. 63rd and it is known as the Hatch House…constructed from stables back in the early 1900s.  The home was gifted to the first owners by the Vanderbilt family and famed burlesque dancer Gypsy Lee Rose is said to have owned it for 3 decades.  Spike Lee bought it in the 1990’s for $16 million and is now selling it for twice as much.

The 8200+ square foot home is made up of two buildings surrounding a courtyard.  It features 5 bedrooms, 8 baths, staff quarters and a gym.

This property is listed by Sotheby’s Serena Boardman.

It has been reported that the home was owned by famed modern artist Jasper Johns too!  Lots of famous names it seems have lived under this roof.

What do you think?  Would you take it or leave it?  I like the house.  Love the arched windows and the long walkways connecting the two buildings.  I also love the idea of having my own private courtyard right in the middle of New York City.  I’d take it!

Happy Wednesday!

This is GORGEOUS. Who wouldn’t take it. And the decor, while a little generic, is so much better than what you see in most of these places. Very nice, Mr Lee. I wonder why he’s selling…

I love when there is a home interior as well as the floor plan. It makes me understand each space and function so much more. Love to look of this home. A bit too formal for my taste but I can enjoy the overall look just the same

The right chandelier doesn’t just light a room, it becomes the room. Scale, material, placement. When it’s done right, everything else arranges itself around it.

Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive.Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive. 🌸
One thing I’ve learned is that every outdoor space needs a focal point. It gives your eye a place to land and makes the whole space feel more intentional.
In this courtyard, the bougainvillea naturally becomes that focal point, adding color, height, and movement without overwhelming the space.
If you’re designing your own patio or garden, start with one standout feature, then let everything else support it.
Save this tip for your next outdoor project. ✨

Design by @covetnoir. A 1750 Georgian home in Surr Design by @covetnoir. A 1750 Georgian home in Surrey, restored back to its former grandeur.
Grade II listed and stripped of most of its original character by previous owners, this 9,000 sqft home with seven bedrooms, and five bathrooms was brought back to life for a French-Swedish couple raising two young kids here. The brief: Parisian luxe with a Scandinavian twist, and a design calm enough to keep the grand proportions feeling intimate.
Covet Noir rebuilt what had been lost: full plasterwork, raised & fielded panels, a bespoke decorative ceiling, and added a cantilevered limestone staircase with Nero Marquina cabochon inlay in the entrance hall. The material palette leans into marble and alabaster, softened with boucle and brushed cottons, chosen to hold up to two kids and two dogs without losing the elegance. Antique furniture and architectural fittings were sourced throughout to keep the project sustainable, alongside ground source heating.
Grand bones, calm hand. This is the kind of restoration we could look at all day. 🤍

A great vaulted ceiling doesn’t just add height. It changes how a room feels entirely. The best ones make you stop, look up, and never want to leave.

Before you start moving furniture, ask yourself thBefore you start moving furniture, ask yourself these three questions:
Does this improve the room’s function?
Does it create a better focal point?
Does it make the space easier to walk through?
If the answer is “no” to all three, maybe it’s just the rearranging itch talking. 😅
Save this for the next time you’re tempted to move every piece of furniture in your house.
