THIS GREYSTONE MANSION BRINGS THE SUMMER INDOORS

December 2, 2011

Sun room with floor to ceiling glass windows, Chevron pattern painted on the wood floor and an indoor Lovely hammock

It is getting colder…even here in Los Angeles…it is getting colder.  Last night when out at a party I actually wore a long Max Mara winter coat!  A light weight long winter coat but a long coat nonetheless.  I know all of you all around the country who are dealing with real cold weather think Californians like me are annoying and don’t really know what cold is…you are probably right.

A few years ago about this time of year, I was standing somewhere waiting for my car with my sis DS…we were both shivering, shuddering, clacking our teeth, and complaining (whining) about how FREEZING it was outside; all this with a very impatient “can’t they hurry up with our car, it is too cold to even bear, what are they thinking, hurry” type of attitude.  In other words obnoxious.  When we got into the car we first rushed to push the heater button and then we looked at the outdoor temperature reading…it was 60 degrees Fahrenheit outside.  Only in L.A. are two girls FREEZING and having minor adult tantrums over the cold when it is 60 degrees.  Yup…that’s the way we roll out here.

Anyhoooooooooo…back to the whole winter thing and cold thing and this lovely sun porch photo.  I love this idea…bringing the outdoors inside for winter.  Lovely hammock, the croquet mallets can allow a family to get the feel of the outdoors on a cold winter day.  Love the painted grey and white chevron zig zag floor.  Fantastic.

By the way, this sun room is in former Domino editor Deborah Needleman’s country house.  I was just talking with someone the other night about how much we miss Domino!

So..how might you bring a little outdoors inside this winter?  What do you think of this sun porch?

Happy Friday!

P.S.  Last night I went to Luxe Magazine’s Maison de Luxe at the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills.  What a wonderful evening at the 46,000 square foot historic estate.  The house was decorated by designers from across the country for the show house which is now open to the public.  Very interesting twists on decor and design.  For the second night in a row, I got to hang out with all my blogging friends who all flew in for the event (Nicole from So Haute, Paloma from La Dolce Vita,  Marisa from Style Beat and new friends Jennifer from The Peak of Chic and Jennifer from Kravet) again.

P.P.S.  My favorite space at the Greystone mansion show house was this cool hallway below designed by Wendy Schwartz and Kristi Bender of Wendy Schwartz Design.  I love the water color like wall covering and the rope ball pendants grouped together to make a wonderful chandelier

Photos I took last night – 2nd floor hallway at the Maison de Luxe Greystone Mansion show house designed by Wendy Schwartz design makes a statement with a bold and colorful watercolor like wall covering and rope lighting! (above and below)

P.P.P.S. Other notable mentions from Greystone:  I also loved the sitting room designed by Philip Gorrivan and the basement game room designed by Nathan Turner. Well edited, luxurious and livable rooms. I took some photos but they all turned out so dark!

P.P.P.P.S.  Thank you Luxe Magazine for the invite to Maison de Luxe at Greystone!  A fun night!

WHat a fantastic idea! Why should we only enjoy lounging in the sun in summer? Hammock inside all the way! Not to mention the amazing sun porch – love the painted zigzag floor!

I absolutely love the hammock and floors. If I had such gorgeous floor to ceiling windows, I might skip on the indoor croquet set.

I have to say as someone who was born and raised in Southern California but who has been living in Boston for over a decade is that 60 degrees in the Northeast feels balmy but 60 degrees in California truly does feel much colder — like 40 degrees East Coast. Maybe because Cali has more wind chill or something. Not quite sure…

Love love love the hammock & zig zag floor!

Can relate to freezing at 60 – we’ve been miserably cold at 65 in Maui. My hilday baking started early so I could get warm!
