THIS OR THAT: SUBTLE SHADES OF GRAY IN THE BEDROOM!

September 13, 2012
  • Share
gray bedroom with upholstered bed, a glass table with a large jug of white roses, and molded white fireplace

I have not read the book Fifty Shades of Grey…nor do I plan on reading it any time soon. I know…lots of women have read it since it was released in 2011…but I feel like it is not for my demo…seems to appeal to a ton of married moms (every married mom I know between the ages of 35-45 has read it I think). I feel like if I had even a free minute to read a book at this point in my life, I don’t know if I would necessarily pick up Fifty Shades of Grey to read.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the book is bad or that I would never read it…if I was married and a mom, I would DEFINITELY read it. 🙂  Important note to self: find husband and get some kiddies so can start reading Fifty Shades of Grey (more to add to the to do list).

Late last spring, best of friend AM was saying that all of her mom friends from her 4 year old’s pre-school class had read Fifty Shades.  The book was for awhile a main point of conversation every time she went to an event.  Apparently, according to AM, the chatter about Fifty Shades among her NYC circle of moms took almost top billing.  Here was the order of conversation at her “mommy get togethers” back then: 1) chat about kids; 2) then talk about Fifty Shades and 3) chat about Fifty Shades some more and then that was it.  AM felt very left out because she had not read it (at the time). She said she felt like an outcast because when everyone all started to talk about the book she had not a clue. LOL!

Hmmm…how does this relate to interiors?

Oh yes…only the play on words…you know shades of grey part…woooohooooo….almost forgot why I went on one of my tangents….am back now….lah dee dah…lah lah…teedah dah dah. Am a little punchy, I was on the set of a television show yesterday for over 15 hours for my real job…it was funny and fun but am a little loopy this morning.

Focus Coco. Focus.

Okay…so subtly gray bedrooms.  I love these two soothing spaces. Both very different in feel.  The room at the top has a modern contemporary vibe with the its fully upholstered bed, graphic pillows, grommet drapery and modern art above the fireplace.  While the bedroom below feels a little bit country or more romantic with its curvy iron bed.

Which of these grayish bedrooms do you like best – a questions for today’s THIS OR THAT!

bedroom with iron bedframe and white bedding, vaulted ceiling, foot bench and two circle night stands one with a reading lamp the other with a vase of flowers

I think I like the room on top the best…the first one…I like the textures, subtle patterns and clean lines.  Although I think the second bedroom would be a great guest room…what a nice place for house guests to stay!

Which of these rooms do you like the best?  This one at the top or that one at the bottom.  Please do tell!

Happy Thursday!

Haha… I loved the blurb about your friend feeling left out of mommy chatting about 50 shades… I haven’t read it yet either, however, I am a big fan of grays… especially in the bedroom for a calming/chic effect!

Really fun entry. Loving your blog, very chic and clever. I am liking the simplicity of bedroom 2 (second pic). If you have time, feel free to stop by my blog 🙂

Funny that you think 50 Shades is a “mom and kids” book since the main female character is 21 and single. It is basically a romance novel- pretty badly written- with lots of sex. Although catchy- the basic girl meets fabulously gorgeous and wealthy boy who happens to have a (fairly major) flaw. Probably Romance Novel 101. As one of my friends said “After the first book you just skip the sex parts and read the book to see what happens.”

Anddd….I love the first bedroom. The second is a bit too wishy-washy.

My vote goes to the bottom bedroom. I love relaxing in a soothing space with subdued hues, and the curvy lines have a romantic ambiance to them.

    Warmly,

Love this, so soft and subtle. I have a dark gray room and the light gray just gives off such a different feel. Beautiful!

Hello, I am wondering if the second bedroom might be your favorite if it had a wooden floor? Know how you love, love, love wood floors. Just curious.

Obsessed with the top, but I think the bottom also looks cozy. But for my own bedroom, the top is more my style (minus the art above the fireplace… I hate that.).

I also have no interest in reading 50 Shades of Grey. Must be the 20-something, single, childless I’d rather read cheesy chick-lit with a glass of wine type mindset 😉

50 Shades of Grey created a phenomenon I’ve never seen before -every female you know talking about the same book! (I don’t know you yet, Coco, or I wouldn’t have been able to say that.) I love the first bedroom – the pieces have substance. Great post!

My backyard. Literally! A little piece of paradise My backyard. Literally! A little piece of paradise at home.✨🌷 This view is right outside my bedroom window - the house has a beautiful hillside of greenery instead of a traditional yard. I love this view. Whenever people come over they ask if the hillside is part of the property and I say yes. Even though I know how beautiful the view is and I love that I wake up to a wall of green outside the window at the foot of my bed, I rarely walk on the winding path on the hill. I never noticed how majestic the scale of the hillside was until until I saw my goddaughter Chloe walking around outside the other day! Here’s a reminder to find the beauty even in your backyard.
