New COCOCOZY special feature…I’m calling this franchise THIS OR THAT. In this new segment, I’ll feature two things that are similar in nature but different in form and I want to hear from you as to what you prefer. I like hearing your ideas and would love for you to weigh in always.
So in todays COCOCOZY THIS OR THAT…
Was browsing through the portfolio/website of photographer Bob Coscarelli and came across these two living rooms. I like them both actually but they are definitely different.
Take a look and consider which one you find more attractive…
Modern living room is very simple with lots of mid-century modern pieces (Barcelona leather chairs and Arco floor lamp), a boxy sofa, monochromatic grey rug and some yellow accents. (above) |
Traditional vs. modern living…which do you prefer? In this case, I might be leaning a bit more towards the traditional only because the modern might be a bit too bare for me…but maybe not…could depend on my mood! Let me know what you think
Happy Wednesday!

P.S. My laptop fell on the floor on Monday night and broke. I’ve been without a computer for two days and I am totally freaking out. I went to buy another one yesterday and got totally confused and walked away with only a monitor. Ridiculous that I can easily spend googobs of money on clothes and shoes, but totally freeze up with spending the money to buy a computer. I am a PC girl but everyone in my office keeps saying “Apples are THE best.” One girl admitted that part of the reason she liked apples is because they are “cooler” (not necessarily that they are that much better). Whoa is me…woe is me. My dilemma of the day. Off to try to find another computer this afternoon!
P.P.S. Going to another party tonight. This will be the third night in a row I’ve been out. Will tell you about party tomorrow (if I have a computer)!
P.P.P.S. Loving the new issue of High Gloss Magazine! Congratulations to High Gloss Magazine editor-in-chief Paloma Contreras and team. Virtual eye candy. Wonderful mix of all things design – both fashion and interiors. Great story.
loving both rooms, gorgeous!! But I’m IN LOVE with the modern!!! I have both in my home, but love the clean lines and simplicity of modern.
P.S. Sorry about the computer, ouch!! I am a Mac girl and can NOT imagine being without!!
Love the traditional room especially the double gold coffee tables and symmetrical layout.
I really love my HP, so if you are going to stay on the PC train I highly recommend one. 🙂
Both rooms are attractive but if I had to choose, I would definitely pick the modern room. I love the simple lines of the furniture, the grey rug, and the pop of yellow accessories. If it were my home, I would probably want to change the flooring, it is a bit stark for me.
Normally I like more traditional rooms, but out of these two I like the modern. Traditional rooms seem more comfy and cozy. If you can find comfortable modern furniture though, that’s the best! I love the simplicity of this modern room too.

well…i tend more towards modern but this tradittional room is morea attractive that this modern one…i think it is the windows and the light. it just looks more…inviting. hate macs. stick with PC. you are already cool.
Definitely like the traditional living room better than the modern. Modern one is pretty though!
Side note: Switched to mac in September. I will not go back to PC. I love my mac.
The first room looks staged it does not have the finished look of someones home the second a bit better…Draperies always make a room look more finished…
second one hands down….traditional one is a bit too girl for me
Hands down the traditional one… I appreciate the modern one and like it too, but I would feel much more at home in the top photo.
I prefer the traditional one but that architecture is really helping it out.
btw, I would get a mac if I were you. I have always been a pc but I adore my mac. Not only does it look and feel better but the touchpad is incredible with it’s gestural navigation. Plus, you can’t beat the lack of virus attacks.
Prefer the traditional over the modern. I don’t like the TV being the focal point. Have always been a Mac girl. The platform is more stable, the operating system is more elegant and there are fewer virus problems (plus greater integration with iphone/ipad.
I like both rooms. If I had to choose, it would be the traditional because it seems more inviting. But knowing me, I would just take elements of both and make a third totally awesome room. : )
Architecture wins out! Love those windows in the traditional room.
You’ve picked two gorgeous spaces, but I definitely prefer the traditional living room over the modern one. It’s simply more elegant, and there’s more going on in the room so it’s more interesting. The architecture is critical to the space, but the furniture and accessories are beautiful as well. It really is a very contemporary take on traditional, though, so it will appeal to a wide range of people who just like good design in any form. Regarding your PC vs. Mac decision: if you take the plunge and buy a Mac, you will wonder how you lived with a PC for so long. There is no comparison between the two, and for someone who is design-oriented, you would love everything about Apple products. I have a desktop with a huge screen for watching everything and reading blogs, many iPods for home, car and travel, a MacAir laptop, an iPhone, and my latest obsession, an iPad. Nothing else even comes close to how easy it is to use and sync all of these wonderful gadgets!
Prefer the traditional room, so much more inviting, but living in Alaska I would hate the heating bill….
I have a HP TOUGHBOOK and it has survived me letting it slip to the floor, carrying it while its running etc, if you’re tough thats the way to go
love the modern room! the colors and natural lighting are right up my alley!
ps. i just bought a mac last week after several dell laptops. i like it. a lot actually! i still need to transfer all my files and then i’ll feel settled. but honestly, i kinda want someone to do it for me, scared i’ll mess it up!
Gotta go with the traditional. Hugs, Marty
Well, I love the look of the modern, but I do think the traditional living room would be more comfortable for watching TV etc. I’m torn because I do love both! :0
Traditional and Apple 🙂
The first one-hands down. When I see those tall ceilings and beautiful windows I can just feel my heart soar a little bit. Plus, great pieces, though I might change some of the colors. Oh, and buy a PC-I’m a recovering Mac person!
Love the tradional…a bit cozier IMO. Both are lovely, just my liking?
Both of them look great! But I’ve always preferred modern (love those yellow pillows, by the way), but sometimes I love to mix the old with the new. 🙂
go for the best of both worlds: mix traditional and modern!
Modern all the way
Tradish… that architecture!
Both are beautiful! I think I prefer the traditional…nothing can beat the large wall of windows! So bright and inviting.
I always thought of myself as a more modern type of girl….but I think my tastes may be changing a bit….. LOVE the traditional room. The details make it so comforting!

I prefer a mix of both. The traditional one is a bit fancy but mixed with some modern elements and you have yourself a house party! Ha
Love the rounded, pleated corners on the traditional linen-like sofa and also elements in the second photo (the arching lamp, e.g.). An updated traditional could incorporate modern elements, for interest and if the eclectic matches the owner’s tastes.
Keep us updated on your computer choices! I’m right there as well — Apple or another brand of laptop or stay with the PC. I’d rather buy a sofa!
Hmmmm. I am a conflicted girl. Love the architecture of the more traditional space but those are definitely not my colors. I am in the middle of a living room makeover and I am leaving the very traditional behind or so I thought. Wow, I am so far behind I thought I was being kinda cool using the garden stools. I was really drawn to the contemporary space and would love to use those chairs in my 100 year old home but it would be too jarring when I consider the flow of the house. I love combining and some where I will be bringing more of this look in to our home too.
Sorry about the laptop. I was a PC girl for years converted to a Mac 4 years ago. I held on to my PC for about three months while I got my apple feet wet. One day I gave the old Sony away and have never looked back. Love love love my macbook and iMac.
