TILE FILE: MARBLE MOSAIC – THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAIL!

I started thinking about marble tile the other day and then I couldn’t stop thinking about marble tile. Why?…I don’t know. Actually I do know why. I have a friend who is buying a house and we started talking bathroom tile and kitchen counters and all of a sudden I was only thinking about tile. My mind zeroed in on marble mosaic tile…classic and elegant…perfect for a bathroom floor I think, or a fantastic entryway perhaps, or even a colorful kitchen backsplash!

What is the cure when you start thinking about something (in a nearly obsessive manner) and can’t get it out of your mind? The answer in all cases is simple…go to the source (whatever that might be).

So, to cure my need to see some traditional/simple marble mosaics, I stopped into one of my favorite stone/tile stores – Royal Stone & Tile located on Sepulveda Blvd. here in Los Angeles.

There! They had what I was looking for…lots of marble mosaic tile patterns….love the look of marble…to me it is a very chic stone. I like the detail of mosaic – it provides a visual point of interest in any room of a home.

How much would a marble mosaic tile floor cost?

PRICING MARBLE MOSAIC TILE (approximate prices) –

    • Pre-made sheets – Pre-made sheets of mosaic run approximately $15 per square foot depending on where you purchase (range is probably around $13-20 per square foot).
    • Custom – If designing your own mosaic tile pattern (picking and choosing colors and designing patterns), the tile can cost you anywhere from $25-35 per square foot.
  • Borders and Trim – Borders and trims as seen below are used on backsplashes, floors and sometimes inside showers…and can run from $40-50 per linear foot and are sold in pieces.

That means for a 10’x10′ bathroom…the tile cost for a pre-made traditional pattern marble mosaic floor would be approximately $1500 (this of course does not include installation or other materials).

This 300-year-old Belgian château redesigned by a This 300-year-old Belgian château redesigned by a French interior designer and architect, Nathan Litera @nathanlitera is a beautiful reminder that good design isn’t about replacing the past, but learning how to live with it. You see it in the preserved millwork, the original fireplaces, the parquet floors, and then in the quiet contrast of contemporary lighting, cleaner silhouettes, and restrained color.
The magic is in the balance. The newer pieces don’t compete with the architecture. They feel intentional, calm, and completely at ease. Nothing is overly styled. Nothing distracts. History stays front and center while the space still feels entirely livable today.
Here’s how to bring that same feeling into your own home:
* Keep your base timeless — neutral walls, classic materials, architectural details if you have them
* Let contrast do the work — modern lighting or furniture against traditional bones instantly updates a space
* Edit your palette — keep colors within a tight range and let texture and form do the talking
* Invest in materials — marble, wood, plaster. They age beautifully and never feel out of place
It’s not about recreating a château. It’s about understanding the feeling that quiet kind of luxury that doesn’t need to announce itself.
Save this for when you want your space to feel layered, timeless, and truly considered. ✨

Sharing with you a day in my life here in Paris. ESharing with you a day in my life here in Paris. Every day for the last few months has been the greatest day ever here. Even days that are not event filled feel special in Paris.
Started with French class on this day. I was taking classes at L'Alliance Français because living here means actually trying to belong here and speak the language.
Then off to the Hôtel de Crillon @rosewoodhoteldecrillon ,a historic palace hotel overlooking Place de la Concorde, known for its timeless interiors and quiet kind of luxury, catching up with a friend like it was the most ordinary thing...in extraordinary place.
So even though nothing momentous happened...wanted to show you what my every greatest day life looks like in Paris.
This city keeps surprising me. 🖤

A soft touch of pink, layered into the space. Not A soft touch of pink, layered into the space. Not overpowering, just enough to warm everything up, walls, upholstery, even the smallest details.
It shifts the mood completely. Calmer, softer, and a little more lived in.
Save this if you’re leaning toward softer, warmer spaces. 🌸

What makes the Saint-Martin Apartment in Paris so What makes the Saint-Martin Apartment in Paris so hard to look away from is the deliberate clash Sophie Dries @sophiedries_ created and didn’t try to resolve.
The bones of the apartment are pure Haussmann: ornate cornicing, carved boiserie, a marble fireplace with a gilded mirror. Everything a 19th-century Parisian apartment should be. Then she placed a near-black dining table with brass-legged stools into the middle of it. A raw concrete-look bathroom behind the grandeur. Dark, sculptural objects on surfaces that were built for delicate things.
It works because she didn’t try to blend the two, she let them sit in contrast. The apartment feels lived-in and specific because of it.
→ Save this if you’re mixing old architecture with contemporary furniture.

From classic to modern, rustic to minimal, the pap From classic to modern, rustic to minimal, the paper lantern just fits. It softens the room, diffuses the light, and rounds out even the sharpest architectural edges without demanding any attention. 🏮
Are you into paper lanterns, or do you prefer a more structured statement light? 🧐
