VIVID – DESIGNING A MERRY RED HOLIDAY SEASON!

November 29, 2011

Bright red kitchen cabinets! (above)

Awhile back I posed the pressing question…red v. orange in home decor?  I know…other pressing questions really do exist…but at that as my mind wandered…as it does so often, I thought, “I must wonder out loud…which color is better red or orange?  I must ponder this…”.  Bizarre I know…but I did manage to spend a bit of time thinking about that question.  I know I could have been doing some real good in the world in even the ten minutes I spent way back when I first asked this question…but instead I was probably sitting in my velour Juicy Couture sweat pants thinking “Huh, I wonder what I like better, huh, hmmm, huh…red or orange?  Hmmm…”  Well, the bad news was, I didn’t have a definitive answer back then…but now I do!  Hoorah…we can all breath a sigh of relief.  The answer is here. (P.S. do not laugh at me regarding the Juicy sweat pants I wear as my around-the-house garb…I really find them so comfortable…so comfy that sometimes I even sleep in them…is that bad???).

Anyhooo….the answer…yes the answer…

Red. Red. Red is my answer.  I like red.  The trends say like orange I’m sure…I don’t care…I love a wonderful vibrant red in all aspects of design including fashion.

Wouldn’t I just love to wear this amazing gown to a holiday party this next month?  I’d show up in this gown even if they said it was a hay ride and plaid flannel shirts were the recommended attire.

In decor, there is nothing like a bright red door to cheerfully welcome visitors inside.  I even like these red cabinets…the rest of the kitchen has wood grain cabinets but then the stove area pops with this vibrant red.

What do you think of this bright red?  To bright for you or is a touch here and there just right?  Do tell?  Do!

Happy Monday!

Interesting!… just as I am pondering the use of RED, and that I do not use it, or rather, had a client wanting to use red… LOVE the kitchen wall, totally awesome!

    I just did a slightly different Red post…. 🙂

Gorgeous images. I prefer a slightly more muted red for interiors, but that’s certainly a striking front door!

I must confess that red scares me, but that front door is stunning!

I am not a fan of red on a front door although this color red is really popping. I also love the accent red on the kitchen cabinets. Very eye catching.

I love red and orange, and am always trying to think of tasteful ways of combining both in my home. I think they can coexist.

Love red and love that front door and only wish I could wear that red dress but the red kitchen might be a bit too much on an everyday basis..I’m just sayin’

I adore red and always have! Looks fantastic! Coco, you NEED to make some of my Christmas tree cones with your FABULOUS fabric!! Add a touch of red trim at the bottom of them! http://www.thecreativityexchange.com/2011/11/fabric-covered-poster-board-tree-cones-part-2.html

LOVE the pops of red! It is simply fabulous. The red cabinets are my favorite, they make the kitchen so fun and playful. And the red door just begs guests to come on inside!

Keep it simple. No need for bells and whistles an Keep it simple. No need for bells and whistles and fancy things to make your house a home. In this picture, a plant, two chairs I found at the flea market, a layered rug situation and some modern art...de-cluttered space can be equally as inviting as one filled with memories and treasures. If you are stuck with how to decorate, I say keep it simple. Purge and start with the basics. Full disclosure, this is a shot of my living room from a few years ago when I first moved in...I didn’t even have drapes up when this was taken. I have since added pieces and changed out furniture and added a 2nd sofa...but it started super simple and it was lovely back then. When the world is swirling around us and making no sense, how are you keeping things simple at home? #socococozy #bringstylehome #cococozy
Pre-pandemic throw back photo to where I was last Pre-pandemic throw back photo to where I was last year. Clueless as to what was to come. Was in Paris, with my mom, enjoying her summer apartment in the middle of the 6th arrondissement. I had just left the U.K. visiting friends for a few days in London and the Cotswolds. None of us knew that this summer 2020 would be so different. Today, I can only hope this time of tumult and great divides leads somehow to a future of calm and harmony. Going backwards in time is not an option. Pushing forward is. Happy Sunday to you. Where were you last summer? Where do you imagine you’ll be next? Xoxo #socococozy #bringstylehome
Incredible living room before and after as designe Incredible living room before and after as designed by my good friend Steve Jones @bettershelter! I went on a tour today. I also went on a tour a year ago when he first got the house. See my stories. Swipe to see what this room looked like before. Life lesson from a room transformation: When faced with the daunting and not so pretty, look to do the work, and you can make changes to bring out what is good. Right? This home by the way is going on the market soon and is in one of my favorite parts of town, View Park. What changes have you made lately that have turned bad into good? #socococozy #bringstylehome #remodeling #homerenovation #californiadreaming
“Be patient with yourself it has been a funky fe “Be patient with yourself it has been a funky few months in the world.” My friend Manon texted this advice to me today. She is right. A little patience and a lot of kindness to yourself and to others during these unusual times will go a long way.

Am in my living room right now looking at these pretty flowers in that white urn I found lying around. The urn works (see Flower Power highlights for backstory). Thinking on who I might send one of these bouquets to today as a little act of kindness. Still working on the patience piece of her advice! 🤪 Who might you send flowers to? How can you be more patient with yourself? Happy Saturday!
