WINDOWS & DOORS – MALIBU REMODEL PROJECT

March 18, 2015

I don’t know where to start when it comes to this Malibu remodel project that TE and I have been working on since last year.  As I mentioned in a earlier post, TE and I started a house hunt almost a year and half ago.  After months of searching, we found this house overlooking the Pacific Ocean last March.  The minute we saw it, the hunt was over.

Now, after months of TE negotiating the home purchase, meeting with architects, going over plans, talking contractors, fretting over permits, going back and forth with each other on decisions and design aesthetic, the real work is beginning.

Just Monday, after work, TE and I drove out to Malibu to see the progress…we walked in and saw that the entire back wall of the house had been obliterated and the view was front and center as planned.  It was a definite wow moment.  The house currently looks like a bomb has gone off in it…and it kind of just looks like a tent of sorts…with no walls and roof.  But because we have been with this house every step of the way, we think it looks great…even in this in between state of disrepair.

A few weeks ago, the new windows and doors arrived.  When we first saw the house, it was a 1970’s Spanish outdated stucco, with small metal windows with a spectacular view trying to get noticed.  The plan from the beginning was to exploit those views and really make the house and the outdoors one with large windows and doors.

Might be hard for you to tell what we are trying to do…will try to share a bit of the house regularly…including floor plans and before shots…but today I want to focus on windows and doors.

Our contractor is awesome.  He introduced us to a wonderful guy who made all of the wood windows and doors custom to the house.  They were all delivered two weeks ago and since then, every day the house gets transformed.  Here are some “before and durings” (the afters will come this summer as we hope to be moving in then).

LIVING ROOM – BEFORE REMODEL

Before, the remodel and the new windows and doors, it was hard to see the fantastic ocean view just right outside the house!

LIVING ROOM – DURING THE REMODEL

The back wall of the house has been demolished to make room for a wall of glass windows and large romantic swinging doors

DEN – BEFORE THE REMODEL

This area on the opposite side of the large living room windows was a home office with a huge pillar right in front of it.

DEN – DURING THE REMODEL

Now this former office is going to be our library and den. The large arched picture window is in! The view on this side, is the front of the house.

 FRONT DOOR – BEFORE REMODEL

front-door-malibu-before
The front door before the remodel was an old carved wood door with a stain glass arch above it. Just note please that the wood floors in the foyer were entirely different from the floors in the living room.

FRONT DOOR – DURING THE REMODEL

During the remodel, we have now installed a 11 foot wood glass front door with an arch!

Will try to make this into a regular series so you all can see the process as it unfolds.  I have googobs of photos I have taken since we found the house and TE closed on it a few months later.

If you are remodeling, you may ask why we chose all wood windows instead of metal clad.  The house is going to be modern with a nod to rustic Mediterranean in the finishes.  We might do a light wire brushing on the wood to give it a little texture. We thought wood would speak to that aesthetic.  Also, the house is far enough away from the ocean that we will not have to worry about extreme salt air corroding the wood.  We figure that every 5 to 7 years we’ll do a little refresh on the stain of the exterior wood to keep it looking like new.

I have got to say, each day as something new is revealed in the plan TE and I get more and more excited.

Hope you all will enjoy our Malibu Remodel Project posts. Let me know if there is any topic you want me to cover…basically we are redoing EVERYTHING in the house so I am happy to share what we are learning in this process about remodeling and each other!

Happy Wednesday!

xo

O my gosh. Gorgeous. What a difference opening up the house makes. Your windows are beautiful. Do you need like a house person? Cook? (I’m a terrible cook but would get take-away and artfully present it on plates and make it seem like I was the cook….) Looks like a heavenly place to live. Congrats.

Behind-the-scenes: Fun work trip to visit the COCOBehind-the-scenes: Fun work trip to visit the COCOCOZY bedding collection at the Welspun showroom in New York. Met with some buyers, had a fun time with the Welspun team, then capped off the weekend with a visit with friends. It is a long process to get bedding in stores across the country...showing the collections at textiles market is one of the first steps!
If you're interested in learning how I have gotten @cococozy products into stores around the country over the years including in major retailers...follow along...just one entrepreneur's journey. :)

Today is my birthday but...I don’t want to celeb Today is my birthday but...I don’t want to celebrate...I want to help.
I want to make a meaningful impact in our greater Los Angeles community suffering from the fires. I invite you to join me in transforming birthday wishes into support for one local organization on the ground in Pasadena/Altadena.
I have made a contribution today already to the LA Fire Relief Fund created by @victorybiblechurch in Pasadena. They are actively assisting families in need in both Pasadena and Altadena who have been affected by the devastating Eaton Fire.
Although I don't have a personal connection to Pastor DeCuir or the church, I was searching for an organization that is helping in the Altadena area. A well respected civil rights attorney I follow @leemerrittesq is on the ground helping the church members and community members with legal services in the wake of the fires. I hope by contributing to their efforts, we can extend a helping hand to those facing significant challenges during this difficult time
To donate, please visit their website at https://vbcpasadena.org/ (link in bio as well). Every contribution, no matter the size, brings hope and relief to those who need it most. Tell them you heard about them from me.
Your generosity to the Los Angeles community is the best birthday gift I could ask for.

Happy New Year! 🎉✨ As we step into this freshHappy New Year! 🎉✨ As we step into this fresh chapter, I’m reminded of the beauty of starting anew and I like recommitting to goals at the top of the year. Nothing set in stone but just an overall vision of what I'd like to do and who I would hope to help along the way.
This year, my mantra is: **dream big, act boldly, treasure the small joys, continue to lead with kindness and to have as much empathy as possible for others **. Just a few things...😂
I’m also deeply committed to helping people who follow along to achieve their dreams. I'll be curating captivating interior design inspiration with COCOCOZY that will hopefully give you ideas and dreams for your own space. I will also be empowering you to realize the value of your influence with Chirpyest by earning cash back for sharing and shopping. I hope to be open about the journey of the COCOCOZY product line. I want to share real time behind the scenes how the line is being built and how we are growing Chirpyest; both examples of the not so linear journey of building businesses from the ground up. I hope these stories spark you to push your own boundaries and shake out of your comfort zones.
Lastly, in 2025, I’m committed to surrounding myself with people who have a positive vibe about them while striving to be that same light for others. Luckily, I have a great start on this with an amazing family and fantastic group of friends - a fantastic support network.
My wish for you in 2025: May this year bring you clarity, courage, and the confidence to pursue all that makes you happy.
What’s one thing you’re committing to in 2025? Let’s inspire each other in the comments! 💬❤️
Let's get to this...am ready 2025!
