Tropical Secret Garden Gate with Red

March 31, 2017
  • Share

Today I bring you a tropical garden gate and a bit of chatter about fashion choices and red pants of all things…

I am still here in the Dominican Republic on a dream vacation. It is so beautiful here and so relaxing being with friends.  I must admit, I fell off the early morning yoga regime a few days ago…I may get back on it this morning…”may” is the operative word in that sentence.

Anyhooo…I felt compelled to put on a bright color yesterday due to the fact that best of friend AM and power fashion blogger Jenn Lake of Style Charade, who are both here at the Playa Grande Beach Club hotel and resort, are two women who know how to wear a beautiful mix of patterns, texture and colors.  I am usually dressed in safe blacks or whites in Los Angeles…I haven’t quite got the fashion confidence of taking on patterns (yet) but I decided to take bright color from AM’s and Jenn’s fashion play books…

Right before I left Los Angeles, I found these cute red pants with a stripe.  I was taking a little walk with my best of friend AM yesterday and she snapped this photo of me outside this magical weathered bronze gate leading to a bridge and stairway up into the caribbean jungle behind the hotel.  Another dreamy spot here.  My red pants were a nice contrast.

Oh also, yesterday SJF arrived to our big vacation in the Dominican Republic. I mention this only because early in the day, in anticipation of his arrival, I donned these red pants with a stripe knowing this is a style he would appreciate.  He never saw this ensemble because his flight was delayed and by end of day I was onto the next vacation outfit.  Sorry SFJ…maybe next time!

Sounds like you’re enjoying your stay in the D.R. I’m heading there my self soon. I was just trying to figure out what to wear, and stumbled across this post. I love both the outfit of the day and the gorgeous gate. Enjoy the rest of your vacay!

Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive.Summer is when this courtyard really comes alive. 🌸
One thing I’ve learned is that every outdoor space needs a focal point. It gives your eye a place to land and makes the whole space feel more intentional.
In this courtyard, the bougainvillea naturally becomes that focal point, adding color, height, and movement without overwhelming the space.
If you’re designing your own patio or garden, start with one standout feature, then let everything else support it.
Save this tip for your next outdoor project. ✨

Design by @covetnoir. A 1750 Georgian home in Surr Design by @covetnoir. A 1750 Georgian home in Surrey, restored back to its former grandeur.
Grade II listed and stripped of most of its original character by previous owners, this 9,000 sqft home with seven bedrooms, and five bathrooms was brought back to life for a French-Swedish couple raising two young kids here. The brief: Parisian luxe with a Scandinavian twist, and a design calm enough to keep the grand proportions feeling intimate.
Covet Noir rebuilt what had been lost: full plasterwork, raised & fielded panels, a bespoke decorative ceiling, and added a cantilevered limestone staircase with Nero Marquina cabochon inlay in the entrance hall. The material palette leans into marble and alabaster, softened with boucle and brushed cottons, chosen to hold up to two kids and two dogs without losing the elegance. Antique furniture and architectural fittings were sourced throughout to keep the project sustainable, alongside ground source heating.
Grand bones, calm hand. This is the kind of restoration we could look at all day. 🤍

A great vaulted ceiling doesn’t just add height. It changes how a room feels entirely. The best ones make you stop, look up, and never want to leave.

Before you start moving furniture, ask yourself thBefore you start moving furniture, ask yourself these three questions:
Does this improve the room’s function?
Does it create a better focal point?
Does it make the space easier to walk through?
If the answer is “no” to all three, maybe it’s just the rearranging itch talking. 😅
Save this for the next time you’re tempted to move every piece of furniture in your house.

What makes it work: restraint where you’d expect excess, and boldness where you’d expect safety.
This is what happens when a home is built by people who actually know the place. 🖤
