Arrgh…so much to do and so little time. Looks like drywall is going up this week in our Malibu home renovation project. As you may know, my guy and I are redoing a house we found over a year ago in Malibu. Each week, to distract us from delays we think, the contractor gives us an assignment of something to get for the 4 bedroom 3.5 bath home overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We rush around and get what he has asked for and make decisions and then the contractor doesn’t really use it. A few weeks ago the assignment was door hardware for interior doors. Then our hunt began for just the right modern door levers.
Well we now have a dilemma…a paradox of choice. All of the choices have us frozen…unable to make a decision.
We have been to door showroom after door showroom…I have catalogs on my kitchen counter…I spent hours on the phone with one dealer building an interior door set that was $1550…we have deliberated ad nauseum and still do not have a decision. Argghhhhh….help.
So many minute details. Our contractor thinks we should do oil rubbed bronze for all hardware…TE and I disagree…we want to do a brushed nickel finish. Then we found some high end luxury handles and levers that we are considering for the main space.
On Friday morning, when TE is back from London, we will go to our plumbing and fixtures showroom very early and see what he has.
We have 14 interior doors, several closet doors, 5 exterior doors, 1 barn door, and 4 sliding glass doors to trick out…this does not include window turns either. Hmmm…
Well in all of this searching around…I came up with a blog post on modern door levers. Here are a few that I found that I really like. Also discovered some amazing door hardware companies that make levers with leather, wood inlay, pounded metal, and details I didn’t know exist.
If you want to dress up a space or make it look a little more modern…change out a traditional knob for one of these lever beauties!
I hope this list helps you!
Happy Tuesday!

P.S. Had drinks last night at the Soho House with AA. Got some great advice. Nice time!
Check out Martin Pierce Hardware, local in Los Angeles. Perfect for a Malibu home.
Thank you for the tip!
You may think i am crazy but I think kwikset is the way to go. We remodeled I high end Florida home and had some kwikset as temporary knobs because I couldn’t decide. Over time we replaced them with two very expensive brands (one interior, one exterior in all except one area that was to be getting an addition. After a couple of years the kwikset ones look great still. The others have pitted, spotted and changed color. Also it seems my wedding band has even added scratches to my closet door and cabinet handles — who knew? I am thinking that more boutique brands/prices are not as tested etc. It definitely was not worth the thousands spent and I am soon to be replacing them all. Just my thoughts and lessons learned.
My thoughts would be to also make sure it feels nice to the touch. With tap ware too. We had some gorgeous, very squared off edges on our handles which feel nice but once there’s the need to turn the handle under some resistance they actually hurt my hand a bit. That adds a coarseness with every use. I love the black handle. I love black tap ware too. V yummy
Do you have a pet? I have found the lever handles, although very useful to humans are also very useful to a clever pet. My cat can open doors with lever handles, he hasn’t learned to twist a knob. Not only can he escape from unlocked rooms, the sound he makes jumping on the door to pull on the lever is really really annoying, especially at 4AM.
Hi Morgan! Good point. We have two busy body dogs. We should keep this in mind! The small one is so sneaky that he might figure out the lever. The big one will definitely figure it out. Very helpful. Appreciate it!
Best,
Coco
Love these modern levers. I know they can make such a big impact in a space!
